Dilemma - write for article directories or content website?

I am building a content site and I want to put unique articles on it (as well as some PLR). I get frustrated because I feel that if I write a good unique article, I want to send it to an article directory not just put it on my website.

I understand that I can put my published articles on my website but I feel funny about that too because I don't want visitors coming to my website through an article and finding that same article on my website.

Does anyone else struggle with this or am I just a newbie thinking too hard.

    Lynne,

Why not do both? You could write original, keyword optimized articles for article directories and then take the same article and change it a little for your website.

Another idea is to take the PLR articles and re-write them for your website. Then only submit your original articles to the directories.

If you are a decent writer, it should not take you long to re-write PLR articles for your site. You want to incorporate some good keywords into the articles for the search engines.

Getting a massive amount of content out there is the key to getting traffic to your site.

    Lynne,

I see what you mean about having the same article in both the directory and your website. But that is ok because even though your visitor comes to your site, there should be other articles on your site that can be of interest to them.

Also, I have heard that this will not cause duplicate content penalty to your site. Since you have a good keyword based article, then you will get more chances on the search engine to be indexed. That means two ways that visitors can find your site when they type for the keyword in the search engine.

I got some good advice on this just the other day; submit an original to an article directory, then change it a bit before uploading it to my site. So, that's my plan!

Do you know what percentage I have to change the article so I don't get penalized? Also, can the article be optimized for the same keyword or should the keyword optimization change for that article?

Folks you need LOTS of new original content, ALL the time. Write the important stuff that only you can write and outsource the rest - find GOOD writers to hire at GOOD prices (paying $10 per article will obviously put you out of business).

Put MOST of it on your website or blog (or on the blog that is a subdirectory of your website) as content, and SOME of it off-site to drive traffic. Personally I find that 80/20 is a good ratio. Of that 20% that is put off-site, about 60% of it should be at Ezine Articles. ALWAYS give EZA a unique article. You can distribute the other 40% to distribution services like isnare etc. and/or multiple directories, but DO also give a unique article to Hubpages, Squidoo, and Blogger once in a while.

If you want to experiment with link-spamming software (like a Pligg blaster) then always use your Hub pages, Squidoo lenses, and Blogger pages for that. Never do any questionable linking schemes directly to your website.

Keep the fresh content coming, all the time.
