NO IT DOES NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE WITH SEARCH ENGINES!!!!!!!!

Sorry, there has to be 5 threads a day with this. The ONLY difference, is discrimination with other users. That is all. Search engines do not discriminate against site extensions, people DO.

As others have said... It makes no difference. Only difference the extension makes in regards to SEO is that .us .uk .au etc will give you different rankings based on locality.

I think the only time it really matters is when you are advertising offline such as radio as the .com is more common and quick to remember.

But I agree, as far as search engines content is all that matters.

The saying that "Build it and they will come!" has long ended.

Of course, they have no difference in search engine ranking. The important factor of ranking is quality of site's content, not the extension of domain name, I think.

You can have just as successful a web site with any domain extension - with enough work. However, if you want to know if google has a bias for initial indexing I would read this post by Shaun of Hobo SEO, one of the most respected SEO blogs of 2010:
Does Google Play Loaded Dice With Your Rankings? -

He does testing all the time, and has found at times in the past that google does favor .com for keyword driven domain names and initial indexing.

Again - over time, if you get authority it simply doesn't matter - his test was for initial indexing.

A simple test you can do is to type in your main targeted keyword in Google and see what extensions come up on the first page. Also don't forget those sites that allow you to search for "golden" domain names, like Nameboy.com

It doesn't matter in the slightest.

Pick a domin - a .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, or whatever else: it really doesn't matter.

The important thing is that you put the work in to writing/publishing good content on that site, and build good backlinks to it.

If you do that, it'll rank well regardless of the TLD you use.

    End of story. Move along.

      Hi laurencengirard,

      It makes no difference.

There is no evidence at all that Google or any of the search engines differentiate between all of the .com’s, .org’s, etc.

Many internet marketers have taken those sites and reached the top of the search engines.

There are more important things that you should be focusing on such as the quality of your content, what niche you are writing in, your backlink strategy, and your SEO strategy.

Those are the factors that will have an effect on how well your site does in the search engines.
