Hi guys, I've noticed lately that Squidoo is really clamping down on Lenses that are being used primarily for marketing purposes.

I know that more experienced warriors know that you should always focus on your own websites, so that YOU own the content, and then use Squidoo and the like to build supporting links and content, but plenty of newbies still start off by building content on sites that they don't control.

Here's an example of 2 pages pushing Clickbank products that I recently came across. Both pages rank highly for their keywords, and both have around 5000 inbound links according to yahoo site explorer.

Oh, and BOTH have been LOCKED by Squidoo. Check it:

Squidoo : show
PR2 - 5577 links according to Yahoo

Squidoo : show
PR4 - 4994 links according to Yahoo

These are not my lenses, just lenses that I came across. I have no doubt that based on their position in the SERPS, someone was making plenty of sales and a nice income with both lenses.

In a flash all of that is gone. As anyone can tell you, getting 5000 links built and indexed is a very time consuming and potentially costly process.

I realize that Squidoo is easier to get to rank well, but the risk simply isn't worth the reward.

Get your own website, and build links to your own website, and then no-one can ever take that away from you!

I have always thought that Squidoo has always been about making money for Squidoo by using other people's content. IMO it has never been about anything else.

When they can pop a contextual ad on your page to draw a click, that makes money for them right now. Versus a visitor leaving the page to buy something from you.

So it means that newbie like i who can´t right now buy the domain and hosting to make proper webpage is doomed not to use squidoo type of pages to start making money for bigger projects funding.

I thought to do it, cause have heard it´s one of the easiest ways to get sales and money to move on.

Squidoo is still a nice alternative for folks that don't want to bother with buying their own property (domain name). If you focus on providing true content and value, Squidoo will leave your lens alone.

You are right about building and working for your own website. But the lenser wouldn't got to a flying start without squidoo at the first place.! That is something to keep in mind as well.

Being under Squidoo certainly contributed to the lenses success. But if the owner made all those backlinks all his work just went up in smoke.

So in other words, when you find a good resource, don't tell the whole freaking world about it.

Even if you aren't abusing it, somebody else will and that somebody will screw it up for everybody else.

Hey guys, I found this great site that ranks really well and you can even post affiliate links!

    ...and boom goes the dynomite!

I only use Squidoo lenses as residual forms of SEO and traffic building. Most of what I see out there on the squidoo site is not all that helpful. Rather build your own site.
