Hi all,

My name is Theo...& I'm from Melbourne, Australia.
I'm very new here...not just in the forum but in the IM world.
I have done alot of reading here on the forum...& believe I'm almost ready to begin my venture into Internet Marketing.
But I am a little confused with some things...& hope some of you more experienced Warriors can help me out.

1. Indexing - Where / When / How do you do this ??
2. Linking - Where do you link to & how ??
3. Social B'marking - When & What do you bookmark ??
4. Pinging - What do you 'ping' ??
5. RSS - Is this important ?? How & Where do I do this ??
6. Articles - How many directories ?? Which are the best ??

I would like to thank you all in advance for reading my thread...& taking the time to offer your advice.
I truly appreciate your help.

Cheers...Theo

Those questions are indicative that you haven't read much.

The answers to half the questions you're asking can be found with a quick search on G.

The other half can be found with a quick search of this forum.

    Hi Theo, welcome!

    Everyone starts somewhere

Here are some thoughts from my own perspective, others will invariably have their own way of doing things...

    1. Indexing
I use Wordpress for my sites, have All in One Seo plugin and have a long ping list set up so I never bother indexing my sites. My blog (which I've just set up) got indexed in about 24 hours and a new post can sometimes only take an hour or so.

    2. Linking
If you're talking about getting links into your site for SEO purposes this is a whole subject in itself!
I do most of mine through article marketing and some social bookmarking. My signature has a link to a post which will give you an example of the exact backlinking I did to rank for a specific keyword.

    3. Social Bookmarking
Personally I've been a bit slack here but I've just started using IMAutomator.com to bookmark my individual posts as well as bookmark the articles that link into those posts.
I'm just about to start manually submitting to Digg, StumbleUpon and Delicious as these aren't included in IMAutomator. This is just what I do, and remember I've been slack in this area!

    4. Pinging
I ping to about 90 sites - you can download a list of them here:
Get Indexed by Google Fast by Updating Your WordPress Ping List

    5. RSS
Again, I'm a bit slack here because I haven't submitted my RSS feed to RSS directories yet so someone else may chip in with their experience.
    I use Feedburner for mine.

    6. Article Directories
These are crucial for SEO for me. I always use EzineArticle.com then:
    • GoArticles
    • ArticleDashboard
    Other good ones are
    • ArticleBlast
    • Amazines
    • ArticleAlley
    • iSnare
    • ArticleRich
Hope that helps as a start.
Your questions are kind of very broad topics but you kind of have to start there to know what else to ask

    Good luck
    Libby

Indexing is done by search engines and not by site owners.
Search engine indexing collects, parses, and stores data to facilitate fast and accurate information retrieval. Index design incorporates interdisciplinary concepts from linguistics, cognitive psychology, mathematics, informatics, physics, and computer science. An alternate name for the process in the context of search engines designed to find web pages on the Internet is Web indexing.

LOL, perhaps don't be so literal.

Bottom line, Theo wants to know what you can do as a website owner to encourage search engines to visit and index your site.

My words "I never bother indexing my sites" should have been written as "I never submit my sites to any specific place for indexing, such as the 'Add your URL to Google' page here: http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl"

        Better?

          Yes, better

I had a sense that you were not literal in that case, but it could have been confusing for newbies and so I had to clarify that. Sitemap submission could be another way of helping SE's in indexing process.

    1. Indexing - Search engines job not yours - you do the seo work.
    2. Linking - Use backlinks and not link farms.
    3. Social B'marking - Digg, StumbleUpon, etc.
    4. Pinging - Ping RSS, blogs, etc.
    5. RSS - google it
    6. Articles - google it

You need to go out and do research on each subject. Just Google it or browse this forum. It's a learning process and takes time to master.
