Is there a market for erotica?

I have erotic story packets that I'm considering making into PLR if I find there is a market. What would be your advice on how to package them? According to perversio .. I mean according to sexual proclivity or niche, or make the packages assorted? How many words would be ideal? (some are quite long). Are they best in text or .doc files? Do they need to be keyworded? How many stories/articles would I put in a package, and finally .. how much should I charge?
I hate to get too many of these put together only to find out that I did it wrong.

We all got to be experts at something right?

    Seriously, I generally find that people trying to sell PLR have a difficult time finding customers. Erotica may find a larger market simply because it's so hard to find writers who will work in sexual niches, but the PLR business in general seems saturated by price-shoppers who simply don't ever want to pay more than a few cents per article.
    I'd recommend you hang out your shingle as an article writer willing to work in sexual niches. You'll probably have more work than you can handle in short order, because there are a LOT of people in sexual health and porn/dating niches here.

        See, where were you when one of my clients needed 500 catalog descriptions for an adult storefront? I had to turn down the job because I couldn't find enough decent outsourcers to guarantee the turnaround time they needed. There's a lot of money being left behind because there just aren't enough good writers working in this area.

        Submit a help desk ticket; there's nothing in the rules about it, so you should ask the staff directly.

        Alternately, since all classified ads go through an approval process before going live, you could just write your ad and submit it - knowing that if it gets approved it's okay. But it would be polite to ask at the help desk first.

    Caliban is right. I often see people in the Warrior's for Hire section ask Warrior's if they will write an article for the adult niche, and they usually say no.

    You could carve a niche out here in the WF by advertising your services as a writer of Adult content. Mind you, I'm not 100% sure it's allowed by WF.

      I've written a lot of erotica over the years and even used to sell it to magazines but I never posted an ad here for it because as you note, I'm not sure it is allowed by WF. Especially since my erotic writing is -- well -- kind of in the realm of fetish and other odd areas.

      Catching a cheating spouse is definitely hot. I know of one well known Warrior who did very well with a PLR ebook on that very subject. Just think outside of the box, and you'll find a solution sooner or later.

    I've written for every niche under the sun, and I can assure you that there is a market for erotica. As usual CDarklock hit the nail square on the head, I'm sure there is a decent market for someone whose not worried about writing in the sex/dating niche.

    Orator thanks! I'm not sure what would 'worry' me about it though? It's just writing. I know the limits, and my own repugnance at certain scenarios which would make them UNwritable for me. But I've got a good imagination and a fair memory ..

      Well I admire you for that, some people are just a little more picky. I never had a problem personally with writing articles for the adult industry, quite frankly there more interesting then writing about lawn gnomes.

    There are plenty of erotica writers, you just need to know where to look. The Warrior Forum has it's strengths but sex ain't one of 'em.

    Slickest, check out GFY.com or netpond.com or just google adult webmaster forums. There are a bunch of 'em that rival and in some cases even surpass the all mighty warrior forum. The adult internet marketing industry has been around a long long time. I think they invented the internet with Al Gore.

    I was in dire need of stuff a couple of months ago. I wanted to improve the written content on a site of mine to see how it would effect rankings compared to the typical 300 words dribble that usually leaks out of my head, and honestly, I'm kinda tired of writing about barely legal teens kissing, caressing and.... whoops... that'll be $19.95 to watch in FULL 1080i HD

    It's allowed. There have been adult and porn related WSO's in the past. Not sure how sales were but I know there are a few here, including myself, who are equal opportunity marketers. Besides, a big boob blog is a hell of a lot more fun than pitching rehash MMO ebooks.

          What Caliban said. I wouldn't worry about it. The only Kindle e-book that got into hot water on Amazon was the pedophile guide and even that Amazon defended the guys first amendment right until it was too much bad press. So as long as you keep your stories between adults I think you'll be fine.

How many stories/articles would I put in a package, and finally .. how much should I charge?

        Have you tried to do any simple research of the market?

        It is quite competitive so you really have to be creative for your product to be seen.

        It will be better for you to target some keywords that are not so popular in the niche and give it to them.

        You can broaden your keywords as you start getting results and more confidence.

        Generally, such articles doesn't have to be less than 500 words.

    I have a vibrator site. It is just sitting there making no money at all. I think I made two or three sales on CJ as an affiliate for Eden fantasies. I see large potential here though. I never really done much with this site, it was just a brainstorm. The reason I didn't do anything with it is because I feel completely awkward writing about anything erotic. I tried writing a few articles but it's just not me. Maybe you could look into something like this as it should be second nature to you to write about such things and get your visitors juices flowing, so to speak.

      I bought the domain brazzersvideo.org, which gets about 33k exact world-wide. I'd sell it if someone wants it. The keyword research I did suggested it'd be wide open for the .org. Could pull in a good 1k a month if it gets top spot?

        Kindle is my new obsession. I'm on the Kindleboards every day studying what everyone else is doing.

        If I were a writer of erotica - I'd just package the stuff up as a series of novellas or even a novel, get someone to design an attractive cover for me - and sorry, I'm not thinking lawn gnomes! - and promote/sell it.

        The erotica writers on Kindle seem to do VERY well for themselves. Think about it. Who wants to go to a bookstore to buy those books, when they could just download it as an ebook?

        Selena Kitt, an erotica writer, says she's making $3000 A DAY selling her erotic books on Barnes & Noble. Actually she says that happened after she was banned from Amazon because of the content of her books - apparently a little TOO hot and spicy for them.

        But anyway...if you know how to market yourself, and you're a good writer, I'd say you're wasting your time with PLR in this case.

    Please check your site - McAfee SiteAdvisor validates it as red, dangerous site. I can give you no advice what to do. My 40+ sites are verified and registered on SiteAdvisor, yet, all are gray with the exception of two. Those two are red... very simple sites with some data and CB ads only. How to change them? I don't know.

    Well I'm so glad to see I can be a trend setter for erotica topics. Besides lawn gnome erotica is an evergreen niche, I prefer them to those seasonal outside figurines. Once the holiday passes, then there just useless.

    I suppose now that everyone is jumping on the bandwagon I will need to find something different.

I never even bothered trying to monetize the blog at all, as it was just a hobby at the time. The blog still gets subscribers even though I don't write for it. That must say something.

            Guess I'll dust off that story I was working on, put it on the Kindle, and send the people from the blog over there if they want to read the rest.

            Sounds like a good project for the weekend.

                        Alan, that's a great idea for applying time-tested IM upsell methods to erotica novels. I don't think there'd be any issues selling it via Paypal, and with e-junkie you could also get affiliates promoting your X-rated stuff for a commission!

    I just love this thread. So many great ideas and perspectives. I could see someone doing quite well in this niche on kindle or mobipocket too, as then the little miss doesn't have to show her face to anyone as she purchases it LOL. I mean think of how much better V.C Andrews (I think that was the writers name) would have done if those books had also been published in the e-book format!     I was at a "goddess party" the other night and the rep was selling a book of "bedtime stories". Basically it was a book of short stories that you can read in bed with your partner to get you into the "mood".

    I am betting that they probably did some market research before making that product to make sure that there is a market for it. Maybe you can write your own book and sell it.
