Hello guys!

I recently started reading up a lot on online marketing, and I daresay the pool of information here is so vast and brilliant I don't know where to start!

For starters, are there any advices on how to find a good niche? How to get ideas, for example? I've gone on Amazon and I must admit I'm a dumbass, because I can't seem to tell competition apart from no competition!
(I've spent a long time digging out niches but to no avail! )

Please help this newbie out !

David

PS: I have Market Samurai, if that helps.

    David,
Finding niche is not difficult at all. It's only that you have to think about which topics are potentially the most sought after topics on which the internet user mass is trying to learn more about, gather information about etc.
According to me, the most sought after topics about which the internet surfers try to gather info on are:
    1) Ways and means of making extra income: the work at home niche
    2) Self help topics: skin care, how to grow taller, teeth whitening, relationship building etc
    3) Embarrassing health problems: this area is quite a hot area where an average internet surfer spends time and money on. Dating, Snoring, Body Odor, Bad Breath, Erectile Dysfunction and problems like these which the sufferer finds difficult to talk or share about. So what he/she does is pay attention towards internet to find remedies and answers of.
    4) Product reviews is another arena on which lot of search takes place. People are interested to learn about the products, their features, compare 2 and more brands etc etc.
If you start thinking this way, you'll find a good niche to start working on.
    Hope this helps.

Finding a good niche is definitely key and I have say that if you have this Market Samurai and you are still asking for help that does not say much for the effectiveness of the software. You need to figure out what category you are trying to get into before you can select a good niche in that category and then find a unique sub-niche and go from there.

Maybe this will help...as far as infoproducts go (books, ebooks, courses, membership sites, etc...), think of a niche as a question backed by either a desire to overcome pain/frustration or a quest to achieve a desired outcome.

Buyers are then organized by their uniform interest in that question...that's what makes a niche spend money on information.

Let's say you have a group of parents that share the frustration of getting through to their teenage son...having an info product that helps them break through the ice and open the lines of communication with their teen is the niche, in that case.

So, when you go to places like Amazon, you want to search for keywords (in this example, parenting, or parents of teens and you come up with several examples like this one - "Boundaries With Teens: When To Say Yes, How To Say No"

Scroll down and you get some interesting information:

      1. First, seeing that there are results around your niche idea is good, it means that there is a market for what you are thinking of targeting

      2. This particular books is ranked 7,366 in ALL books on Amazon, that is pretty good, this means it is selling well, especially given it has been on the market since 2006

      3. There are 22+ customer reviews with thousands of ratings which tells you again, there is a pretty healthy market - and the reviews are good, with several comments about what people liked and didn't like that gives you clues on how to enter the market yourself if you choose to

      4. Scroll down further and you see dozens of related books where you can dig into the same sort of analysis.

What this tells me is a) This is a niche with significant potential b) We have some high authority books so we want to look at alternative ways to enter the market (look for ways to extend the information, look at a possible collaboration with multiple authors to do a compilation product, consider an audio, video or membership info product that will build on the book concept)

All of this you can learn from spending a few minutes on Amazon...hope this helps

David I would suggest going over the MS training videos, then go over them again until you understand how to use the tools.

Even if it takes you a couple of weeks to sift through keywords until you find the right ones, that is time well spent.

      Don't rush this stage.

Niche and keyword research are the two most important aspects related to foray in internet marketing or/and towards becoming an infopreneur.

I gathered insights into niche and kw research by virtue of being Ken Evoy's SBI enthusiast. Rather than spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on various reports, ebooks, softwares to gather niche and keywords info, it's better to start with SBI and make your fundamentals strong. SBI teaches on how to think out of the box, be a practical internet marketer, work in the right direction, understand how powerful search engine marketing is and then embark upon a stage to work on a niche or two and become an authority there.

For me: SBI's Brainstormer tool is the ultimate niche and KW research tool ( Niche research platform was recently added into the Brainstormer function ). SBI is found expensive by many BUT it surely delivers value for money.

There's no need to think of any niche. They are all listed for you in the Clickbank Marketplace, Craigslist, the Phone Book Categories and in the Yahoo Directory. That is a foolproof method for you to follow if you want to find a list of niches. Now go to those places and get your niches. Good luck!
