What's YOUR strategy for reaching No.1?

Hey warriors,

With all the tools and methods out there it can be easy to lose sight of the bigger picture. With that in mind, when creating a new site

1) What is your typical outline of steps implemented to increase your SERPs?

2) Which tools or methods are the most essential to your campaign?

Let's make a fantasic thread together!

Regards,
Erick

It's really fairly basic. Good onpage SEO with keywords in title, H1 tag, H2 tag, 500-1000 word post with keyword repeated a few times. Good offpage SEO with lots of backlinks from forums, blogs, articles, etc and exact match domain.

Look Mike; you just wrote the next ebook! Slap a cover on that bad boy and go sell in the special offer section for $17! lol.

      But seriously, good simple reply.

Sometime the simple things are the most effective. This was one of them.

I swear you have just saved people in here buying thost $2997 courses. You know the ones that tell you how to get to the top of google in 3 days. Rah rah...yeah whatever.

On page is a tiny piece of the puzzle. If you're going to do your own off-site SEO, just make sure it looks natural.

    I.E.
Don't purchase xrumer and scrapebox blasts unless you're site is ready for it, and you get it from a reliable source (probably not someone on fiverr, lol). Low quality pages don't stick so well, so be good with your web2.0's and bookmarking.

Produce unique content, take advantage of spinners, web2.0's ( Wordpress, squidoo, hubpages, and blogger work well for me right now), and RSS feeds.

Don't blast your content to every press release and article directory around (unless you've got AMR or something). Just stick to a few of the high PR ones for each piece of content.

This could go on forever.... I'll stop now.

Mark said it well. I concentrate on using keywords in the appropriate places and getting good, relevant backlinks to my pages.

      Thanks for the input, Brendan!

Do you usually get links pointing to your articles?

Not all of them, but yes I do.

Often I will have a web2.0 with two links: One link pointing to either a Tier 2 site, or my money site, and the other link will either point to an authority site (in the same niche, of course), or one of my articles at a high PR article directory.

To be clear though, don't just go set up a new web2.0 and put up a post with two links in it. It will probably be taken down sooner or later, as it will look like spam.

I'll create one with a post or two of unique content. At least a few hundred words in total. I'll also change the theme/modules or whatever I can change in about two minutes to make it different from most spam pages. Then a couple days later I'll go add some more unique content (500-1500 words) and my two links.

I haven't tested this for very long, but it seems to work well for the person who taught it to me.

The two most important things that I have found are:

    1. Exact Domain Match
    2. Anchor Text

Hi Mike, thanks for the input

Yeah exact match domains can really give an early on boost in SERPs, but I wonder if it's always the best way to go. If one's focus was on building a large number of micro sites, then perhaps this is the best option.

However, I feel as though it potentially lacks the flexibility in terms of future expansion if you decide to start targeting similar keywords. Another issue is branding. I mean, who's going to remember something like buyusedantiquebicyclesprockets.com?

I find the best websites are both- Exact match domains, yet are kind of general niche keywords that have a lot of room for expansion. That's definitely a major thing to think about when you are choosing a niche/keywords/domain name.

Good on page SEO with quality backlinks direct to the site... High PR Niche Related Guest Blogs, High PR niche related blog commenting, Niche related Forum signatures.

About 50% of my links go to the main page and the rest go to the other pages using a combination of anchor text... sometimes the keywords I want to rank for, sometimes just a name if it's a blog comment.

Then I setup a few web 2.0 properties using the keywords I want to rank for and I backlink them with whatever junk links I can buy off fiverr and a combination of a few blog comments, social bookmarking and forum signatures.

I like to keep the links to my main site fairly high quality and relevant so that I'm well prepared for whatever google does in the future.

Still not at number 1 yet but my main site is ranking well and has made 3 sales in the past 3 days after a huge dry patch.

After Google farmer Update, it seems that exact match domain will not be taken into account anymore.

However, there are 3 important new things that will weight a lot from now on:

      - social media "votes" to your page such as facebook likes and twitts.
      - original, quality content
      - design

So, besides good on-page SEO, write good content, build your pages with a clean, professional design, and don't forget to facilitate social media sharing using "share buttons".

And, of course, Build backlinks, slowly but consistently.

For me it's all about content creation and distribution/syndication. I create a great piece of content and then get as many people as I can to see it and get as many backlinks as I can from it. This involves large scale article submission for sheer numbers, guest blogging for higher quality links, and everything else in between.

I am going to out-compete you on all fronts.

I will create more top-quality content. I will get more valuable links, and my top-quality content will attract more links on its own.

I will get eyeballs on my site, so they can share my content with their friends.

I will target a range of related keywords in my anchor text.

I will get links with NoFollow and DoFollow, because a good mix of each is more natural.

I will build more bread crumbs for people to follow to reach my pages.

Like I said before, I am going to out-compete you on all fronts, and as a result, I will not only have #1 in Google, but I will have the kind of ranking longevity that will annoy the hell out of you for months and years.

I launch when all the initial content of my site is ready. Then I just nuke away with tens of thousands of junk links mixed in with some good quality links. I don't waste useless energy on trying to make it look "natural" or avoiding "bad neighborhoods". Then I just add new content once a week or so.

When creating a new site it is very important that the domain name is quality. Always check to see how many people search that term. And when starting a new site often times people just try to finish it in a hurry and load it up with garbage. A good site has quality information. And the information should be useful, quality doesn't mean much unless it is useful.

Every person who goes onto the site needs to have their questions answered and get something from visiting.
