Stop buying every product and start making money today

That was the one single piece of advise my good friend gave me many years
ago that change my business and life forever.

Now here's why i say this to all, if you are buying product every day or week
I think it would be hard for you to really focus on your business and making
money so you can really live the life you want.

Now I'm not saying you shouldn't continue educating yourself but you have
to be selective on what you are spending your time on. We all have heard the
saying time is money well it's very true, the time you spent buying every
single new widget that comes out the more time you spend away from the
true purpose of running your business.

love to hear what you guys have to say

This statement is very true. I remember when I just started to learn internet marketing, I was buying and buying. Frankly, most purchase are not worth it. At that point, I couldn't separate what is good, and beside, I do not have so many time to read them all.
There was a time that I keep buying the WSO too

Now I only buy what I need, and from my profit.
Sometimes, still couldn't resist the "hype" around, but very minimum now.

What the heck, I just bought another WSO today.
And is thinking to get another one ....

I have to stop buying every product, I'm out of money. Now it's time to start making some money!

I started getting very selective with what I bought when I realized how much stuff was on my computer that I had paid good money for and never used. I found stuff I never even read all the way through!

I don't chase after new products anymore. Education is important and I try to stick with products that will help me in the direction I'm already going.

      Hey guys,

I'm glad to see some people reading and leaving feedback...

That statement I made about stop buying every damm
product that comes out will not only help you and your
budget but it will give you back money to invest in maybe
creating your own product by means of outsourcing.

Or it could go towards generating traffic, as I said my buddy
had to hit me over the head to get me to understand this,
it might sound simple enough stop buying more product but
it is hard when you have kickass salesletters screaming at
      you to buy...lol

If you purchase every product that comes along, not only will you suffer from information overload, which can be paralyzing, you'll soon be broke. There are lots of products I'd like to buy, but I'm forcing myself to stick to those that are in areas I'm actually working on in real life (blogging, site flipping, domaining, etc.). And, I've made money this week because I've been taking action, based on what I've learned in the select number of products I've allowed myself to buy.

    Hello

I've been investing my money only in products and services that I know I can't do quickly and effectively. I think the money people spend on ebooks and products could often be better spent on outsourcing their requirements and getting someone to do it for you rather than trying to teach yourself everything.

Do what you do best and pay others to do what you can't.

    Hope this helps. Harry

Not only will it cause you to go broke, buying every single marketing ebook you come across, but it will stop you from taking action. I speak from experience.

Every time I saw a new product, and bought it, I got excited about a "new" business. I was never able to focus on one thing, but kept jumping from one thing to the next.

As a result, I never got anything done. Now, I've stopped buying and started working. And I'm actually seeing results.

I completely agree. I bought a lot of "how to get started" type ebooks but didn't implement the ideas since I would get sidetracked too easily. Now that I have my "methods" down, I try to invest in services that make my job easier. I spend money on outsourcing certain tasks which is a huge help, but I try to avoid getting sucked in by too many salespages (and yeah, I'm a pretty easy target)

    Hi David,

Thanks for the great post. Has given me some inspiration for a post on my new blog. The title - "You won't catch any fish unless your hook is in the water" which is exactly what my father would say to me when I was younger. I'd spend all day trying new methods, new rigs, different baits and different swims. My father would focus on one method - cast out and sit there until he had a bite. Who'd catch the most fish? My father of course. Moral of the story is to identify a method, focus on it and give it everything you've got until you've succeeded or failed. If there are too many things going on in parallel then you lose focus on your goals and achieve very little.

    Thanks,

    Andy

    This is great advice: focus.

Unfortunately, if you're new to IM, you're not sure what to focus on, because you haven't decided on a business model.

Therefore, start by deciding what you'll SELL. IM is all about selling, so you have to sell something. :-)

    You could sell:

    * A product, either your own or an affiliate product

    * A service you perform (writing, graphics design, getting links for other marketers, etc)

    * Advertising on your own sites and blogs

The easiest way is to start by selling a service to other marketers. Then you have money coming in. So if that's your business model: selling your services, as David says "Stop buying every product and start making money today".

Repeat this mantra to yourself throughout the day: "I'm an IMer and I sell my services."

Only buy products directly related to this money-making activity, and of course, start making money! Set a money goal for this month and every month, and when you meet it, extend the goal.

When you're tempted to buy a product, keep repeating "I'm an IMer and I sell my services". :-)

When you do buy a product (and you will) make time in your schedule to work with the product. (Actually, if you make a commitment to yourself to read and work with EVERY product you buy, that will cut down on your purchases, because there are only so many hours in any day.)

Everything starts with your business model, so decide what you'll sell, and start selling it.

    Cheers

    Angela

You are right, David. I have a 10 point plan for 2009 and as a matter of fact; have started a challenge to help motivate me.

I can't very well accomplish my goal if I am constantly buying products. I spent 12/2007 to 12/2008 doing that.

I am trying to live by the motto of:

"Charles, do what they do before you buy what they sell." It is posted on my computer. There is probably better advice than that out there, but I intend for 2009 to be better than 2008. It will start with more doing and less buying.

Heck, it would take me a year before I read and acted on all of the WSO's I bought in 2008 anyway.

I wouldn't say don't buy any more products.

I would say start concentrating on one thing. Buy products that relate to what you are trying to accomplish.

You will get far more out of the money you spend than hoping around from one product on article marketing to another on ppc.

Get one figured out then move on to something else.

We really have it great here. We have some excellent products being offered in the wso section at crazy prices. If you really concentrated on ONE thing you could learn a great deal from reading this forum and buying a few wso. I am talking $17 to $47 and that is awesome prices for some of these products.

Make a plan and stick to it until you figure it out. It may prove difficult but stay with it. You will never succeed by jumping around like a chicken without its head.

Yes I would have to agree with this.

Chose one method of making money or building your online business. Make a plan based around this method.

Learn what you can about this method by buying related products. Don't even touch anything that isn't directly related to what you are aiming to do.

Put the new information into action and use it to help your business.

Repeat for a new income stream.

The best way to stop yourself from wasting your money on NEW B.S and FLUFF is by choosing "mentor/mentors" and follow him/them no matter what.

My first mentor is Jimmy D.Brown.I got his many powerful e-books on Internet Marketing for FREE while other Marketers might charge you.My first info product that I bought is 'Small Report Fortune"

My 2nd mentor is Yanik Silver.I benefited greatly from his copywriting stuff and it lead me to buy his "Instant Sales Letters".

My 3rd mentor is Joe Vitale.Another world class copywriter that I really admire most for his ability to inspire anyone with only WORDS.I bought his "Hypnotic MARKETING' lesson and it really helped me.

That's it.These are my top 3 mentors that I always refer to.Although we don't communicate directly each other,I'll always look out for their emails and blogs to get up to date Internet Marketing lesson.Until now I never regret for the money that I've spent for my mentor's products.Whenever I've doubt, I'll go and refer back their ebooks.Simple plan indeed.

I'm not saying that other "gurus" are useless and will "trick you" for useless products. There are good info packed stuff from others as well. But the bottom line is,are you ready to believe and follow them?

So choose your mentor wisely and start MAKING SOME REAL money.Only follow what your mentors are saying and you can save hundreds of thousand and time from buying B.S stuff.

Charles, I'm also the information gatherer type and it used to make me feel better just having a product that I initially thought will be useful to make money. As you alluded to the secret ingredient "action" is what makes the difference.

What do you and other fellow warriors have in mind as to worthy WSO or otherwise products for a newbie?

Or asked another way what absolute must-read/must-implement/must-have WSO or info sources to one of your closest friends who you would like to see on a path to financial freedom?

Will your recommendations be any different if the receiving person is very tech savvy and doesn't need to be told what a blog is?

I will be thankful for your suggestions.

It's true, stop buying, and start doing!!!

I think that sometimes someone gets stuck with the product that they have, or they get distracted and don't follow through, and then get caught up in the craze of the NEXT big product hoping it will be the magic button. Problem is, they have implemented the stuff from the LAST product that they bought.

Cool thing is, you can check on the WF here and see what people like and dislike... BUT, when you DO buy something, put it into action before moving on...

Most of the things I buy (which is a LOT) isn't prohibitively priced so if I get a good idea and I will make up any costs I've spent in a good campaign. However, if I run across something that I have to drop a couple of grand on, I'd better come away with a LOT of good stuff. I will say thought that quite a few of the things I've purchased is old trash rehashed. My normal business is financing businesses so I am very focused on a very small segment of businesses that I finance, however, I find it damn near impossible to do in internet marketing because the next "big thing" is like the new flavor of the week. It's almost like opportunity spam. I'll keep attempting to focus and be thankful that I'm making decent money doing it.

Hmm.. Let me say it from the newbie point of view. And YES, I am indeed in the situation now
It seems that newbies just can't resist the temptation of the different tactics and new tricks out there promising to get you "more traffic", "more sales" and ultimately "more money", be it in 1 day, in 7 days or 1 mth.
After these few months in the IM community, and I am wondering at the end of the day, the time that I spend reading and digesting the information and doing research far far exceed the time that I "took actions".
People are saying that we need to take actions, but I think that its not that most newbies do not take actions, it is just that we took the wrong actions and sometimes took too many actions at 1 go. Sounds familiar huh?
We tend to took actions using too many different systems and after failing to achieve any success, jump on another system and took action again. This is never ending "taking actions" and guess what, we just lose the focus and eventually lose the desire to pursue the so called "IM dream of financial freedom". I am speaking from my own personal experiences and opinions and I can say that there are probably more information in my hard disk and brains then there are any "new" tricks or systems out there in the market now.
Most are probably talking about the same old tricks, just re-phrasing in their own words.
I am currently trying to re-focus and concentrate on 1 system and try not to be tempted to buy any more "IM stuff". Unless of course, I come across something that can actually helps and improve my current system that I am working on, stuff such as software that can improve the efficiency and automation.

The problem? with Internet Marketing is you are learning from Marketers. If they are doing their job well and you genuinely have an interest sometimes it can be hard.

It's true though when you stop and focus on something your results definitely increase. This said however I don't think you should just stop buying products all together. Not only are there some real gems out there but there is a lot to be learnt from the process of being a consumer as well as long as you observe the steps that you go through.

My most important tip to somebody that keeps going through tons of products is to take notes on the best bits and takeaways from each product that you go through. My little "Black books" often remind me of methods and tools I've forgotten as well as having tons of old business ideas that have often worked well with something considered at an earlier or later time. By keeping your black books once you get through the fog you have solid personal information that you can use to aid you when building your empire.

    I agree with you.

    In the beginning obviously there's
    a learning curve involved.

However, if you just end up learning
and not DOING then the learning is
    just a waste of time.

Of course you never stop learning
because the internet is an ever-
evolving machine. But if you find
    yourself learning more than you're
doing, then you've got it wrong.

On the other hand, if you are doing
and not learning at all. Then you're
    also putting yourself at risk.
