So Excited to be Here!

Hi everyone!

My name is Jessica and I am a SAHM to a beautiful 14 month old daughter. I've been trying to make money online for about 3 months now. Just within the past month I decided to get serious and here I am. At first I was just blogging (my theme was homemaking). Then I joined SFI and decided to get serious. I have really been learning a lot. The turning point for me was when I found Stone Evan's Plug-in Profit Site. I've been working on the training and am very excited to be involved. I love this forum and have lurked for a couple days and have been learning a great deal of information.

My goal is for my husband to be able to quit his second job! We miss him terribly. We need about $600 a month to make it work.

I need help with organizing my time and efforts. I'm running after a 14 month old most of the day and with my husband gone most of the time, I don't get a lot of breaks to get work done.

What helps you most with your internet marketing? Any tips for a newbie?

Thanks!

Jess

    First, welcome.

Second, to answer your question, find ONE thing that you think you'd be interested in doing, and do ONLY THAT. Don't get distracted by trying a thousand different things for only a little while. Take some time and look over different options and STICK TO THAT ... ONLY THAT. Put your head down. Don't look up. Know that it will probably take awhile. And keep doing that ONE thing. (I don't know about the system you're following, but if it appeals to you, then keep going with that.)

That said, at a certain point you may find that the one thing isn't working for you and you should move onto something else, but that point is probably much farther down the road than you imagine. Keep going and don't expect immediate results.

As for time management (etc.), I recommend the book Getting Things Done. There are also a lot of threads on this forum where time management and motivation is discussed, and people have simpler solutions than Getting Things Done that may appeal to you. ... You can do a search and find lots.

Thank you so much for your advice! Focusing is a major problem of mine. And I am easily suckered into believing something will work. Luckily, I don't pull out my credit card every time but if something is free (a report, etc) I'll usually grab it up and then not read it!

I have been setting aside time to read free reports...now I need to implement what I learn.

It is so hard with a toddler! She is into everything! And my purpose for being home is to be with her! But we really want Daddy to stop working so much! She needs time with him too!

Does anyone have advice on marketing?

Hi Jessica, if you want sustained income, it would be a great idea to start building niche sites. Outsource this labor to folks here at the Warrior Forum to save yourself some time. Then hire some SEO services here to get your sites to the top of the search engines. Monetize your sites with Adsense, Amazon and Clickbank. Repeat the process until your monthly income is at your desired level.

I have heard of building niche sites but honestly it is so confusing to me! I really don't understand what people mean by it! Could you explain it to me or direct me somewhere that would explain better!

      Thanks!

Basically a niche is just a small sub-set of a bigger market, and so you only concentrate on small sub-set. There are fairly big niches and very tiny niches.

Each of the following could be considered a niche, and the list is organized so that each niche on the list is a smaller sub-set than the niche above it.

        Health
        Weight Loss
Exercising (as opposed to dieting - that would be taking it in a different direction)
Strength Training (as opposed to cardio, for example)
        Strength Training for Women
30 Minute Strength Training Workouts for Women

Now, I've just made that list up, and so I have no idea about the marketing potential of the niches, but what you want to do is to pick a niche that has a big enough market so that you will have visitors, but it's not so big that you will be competing with either giant companies or marketers who have a big head start on you, a lot more experience, and a lot more money.

There are lots of ways to do niche marketing. Search here on the forum or even search on Google -- maybe for a free pdf:
        PHP Code:
        niche marketing filetype:pdf
There are a lot of people who teach different types of niche marketing. One that I know of off the top of my head is Adam Short. ... But you could learn most of what you need to know by reading here and maybe even signing up to some free email lists from Warriors who teach it.

Hi Jess and welcome to the warriorforum.

I miss those days of running after a toddler. My daughters are now teens.

The best tip I can offer that was of value to me when I first started out in 2006 was to find my skill set. I made a list of all the things that I did during my employment as well as my hobbies and interests. I took a good hard look at the list and my love of writing really stood out. I then looked for ways to utilize this skill to make money.

    Good luck to you.

I think that the thing that helps me most is when I actually strap down and focus on making some money. This is the best way to get things done and be successful. Without focus, you will not really go anywhere in IM. I have seen that when I focus on a single method or two that I will start making money.

@Jess....My heart goes out to you...and I am happy for you on your new arrival in your family...(14 month old)...

    Be creative and be persistent.

Rarely does a first idea hit payday....that being said... you still can do things that will increase your chances of success...

I like your first goal of making $600 per month.. that 20-30 dollars a day...
do you have a model..... there are hundreds of ways to make that kind of money.. the idea is to follow one all the way thru before you try anything else...
pick the right model for you and learn as much about it and ...i will tell you what you are doing right.....

sometimes you learn more asking the right questions than by getting the answers...

    you are definitely doing that...

More power to you Jess....I am rooting for your success....

The tough thing about working from home (without set hours) is that it is easy to fall off the fence in one of two ways...

Either you are lazy and never actually do any real work...or you work like a maniac and never have free time.

It is important to schedule and pace yourself. Be a marathon runner and not a sprinter. It's OK if you don't get it all done today if you are in it for the long haul!

    Welcome aboard Jess!

It can be hard to focus on one thing when you have tens of thousands of posts on here....Information overload is a common gripe among newbies! So let me suggest this..

After you decide what to focus on, research it on here but only limit your research to the 5-star posts on that specific area. It will make it easier for you to formulate a good action plan!

I echo what a couple other people have said. Pick one (or maybe 2) different things to get started with and stick with those. Personally, having just started out, I picked Adsense sites and Affiliate with digital products (not Amazon). Adsense is easier (in my humble opinion) because you do not need to promote a product. If you can find some keywords that make decent money all you need to do is make information based websites around them and stick adsense on them. People click on the ads = you make money.

It is far harder than I just said - I don't mean to say that it is easy. Just my opinion on the best place to start.

If you don't stick with a narrow funnel of focus to start out you end up with 10gb worth of PDFs, Videos, and other information that you never have time to read! I know from experience.

        Good luck!!

    Welcome, Jess!

I hate to sound like Dr. Doom, but... With soaring energy costs and inflation directly due to it, I think you'd better plan on at least twice that 600/month. By the time you get there, even that might not be enough.

With a toddler, you might want to consider Dragon NaturallySpeaking software to "dictate" instead of keyboarding everything in manually and taking two to five times as long to get it done. (I use the version with a digital recorder and carry that recorder with me at all times for notes and those fleeting "inspirations" that don't have the common courtesy to linger long enough for me to find a piece of paper and something to write with or get to my PC.)

I also strongly encourage you to join the War Room.

Welcome to the forum, Jessica. I know that it's got to be hard trying to juggle a 14 month old baby at home while trying to do internet marketing.

I think for things to really work, it is going to boil down to effective time management and organization. It'd probably be very hard to accomplish anything with a baby scurrying around underfoot, so what you really need to try to do is block out at least one or two hours of uninterrupted time daily where someone else is watching the baby for you (or he's fast asleep), and you can give your undivided attention to your internet marketing.

It may be difficult to do this consistently, but this is what will definitely help to accelerate your progress, and keep you focused and productive with your internet marketing.

Do you have skills in designing/coding etc? you may want to consider doing some freelance work with a skill you have, you should be able to easily obtain $600/m that way. If you get good at it, you could reasonably be able to expect to make that per week, or per day.Im to the point now, that I can realistically design 2 sites/code them and get them on the web per day. but it makes for long days. if you could get 1-2 a month, you could reach your goals.

Create Squidoo lenses entirely free of charge. You’ll receive royalties, and you’ll have the chance to sell many affiliate products. You’ll also learn internet marketing into practice. Many stay-at-home moms are making money this way.

Here is a lens that teaches you how to create many lenses in a short period of time:

    http://www.squidoo.com/passive-income-website-traffic-squidoo-beginners-guide

You have to create many quality lenses in order to really make money with them.

When you’ll learn more about how the internet works, and how to sell our products, then you’ll be able to do a lot more. There many other money-making alternatives, but first of all, you must learn the basics.

    Take care!

As a mom, this is what I'd do:

    1-Set definite hours.
Get a definite block of time to work. This will likely be when your little one is in bed for the night or before she wakes up. That is *definite* work time and don't deviate from that. Treat it like a job, because it is. Any other time you get outside your "work block" is a bonus.

2-Decide what you are going to focus on.
Find your topic/niche/etc. Find out where you want the money to come from (affiliate/selling your own stuff, etc). And as someone said, STICK WITH THAT.You'll never get anywhere if you're setting up new things every five minutes.

3-Get good about your time management.
That means no Facebook until you have done what you need to do. That means checking email once or twice a day at most. Maybe you can learn when your daughter is napping/playing--that's when you can read the "Traffic Building 101!" and "How to make eleventy billions today" books you're downloading--since you might not be able to *work* then.

Overall treat this like a job and go into it believing you'll succeed.

This is an important point that many newbies tend to overlook. It's not just about spending time in front of the computer, it's about spending your time productively. One thing you could do to help you along with this goal is install the Leechblock add-on in the Firefox browser, where you can set specific time(s) to block certain websites that you know will almost certainly be "productivity-busters" - make sure that you block sites like Facebook, Twitter and any other sites that you have issues with during your "working" day.

This is wonderful advice! Thanks so much! I will definitely put it into practice.

Hello! I'm new as well and also a homemaker trying to find a way to help pay the bills. Thus far I've been researching and picking my business model.

The suggestions I can give you based on my experience are:

-Read articles, posts, and books posted on here. This forum is a great resource.
-Make a work space at home that is low on distractions. Turn off the instant messenger and concentrate when you are working.
-Set goals. Make a list of what you want to get done and when you want to get it done. Telling people about your goals will help you stick to them.
-Remember your motivations. Personally, I have a list of reasons I want to work at home taped up on my wall including things like being able to get a running car, paying off my student loans, proving to my husband you can earn an income online, and earning enough money to keep my family comfortable.
-Pick a business model and stick to it. If it doesn't work after a while you can switch then but only work on one at a time. You can expand after you get everything runny smoothly.
-And the biggest thing... don't get information overload! When you find what interests you, research that and that alone. The more different models you read about the more confused you will get. After a while I found that reading was making it more confusing, not less!

I hope that helps! Shoot me an email if you want to connect via MSN or something, I could always use a fellow newbie to talk with about experiences and ideas.

    Welcome Jess,

It's nice to have you join us. I'm a work at home mom. I have three wonderful boys...and I home school them as well. So, yes, I have to be organized.

My favorite money-making venture is definitely affiliate marketing. I think it's perfect for moms because you don't have all the hassles of providing customer service, shipping products, etc.

Whatever you do, just keep things as simple as possible. When you're ready to grow or expand your business, you can always outsource some projects so that you can still manage your household.

Thank you! I am focusing on affiliate marketing. I don't have a product of my own at this time. My main distraction is my daughter, who is, of course, the reason why I stay home. I need to organize our time better and come up with a schedule. I am getting better. I just wrote my own short article today and am submitting it to different directories.

There is so much great info on this forum that you can learn anything that you want. Decide what you want to do and then learn all that you can about it. I like to try to apply what I am learning as I go so I am learning and making progress at the same time. It makes the learning time a little longer, but I have applied it and the progress is the goal. Good luck.
