Virtual Real Estate sells for $6 Million ....Wow! -

I just came across this and almost spilled my coffee...

Planet Clypso sells for a whopping 6 Million in US Dollars

(take a minute and watch the video)

I think I need to spend more time developing virtual properties

That is simply amazing!

Are there any Warriors involved in this niche (Massively Multi-Player Online Role Playing Games (-MMPORPG)) ?-

It's a huge industry with billions being spent, I'd love to hear anyone's input who has had some success with this niche. I've been looking more into it but it seems like it would be very time consuming.

I imagine a lot of work goes into creating these things. With that said, it's absolutely insane.

    Wait what?
How about outsourcing this to some asian kids? How much work goes into developing such real estate? Is it years?
    I am simply amazed.

That seems like a crazy niche. All one would have to do is sell one of those and be set for a long time.

    Cheers

Yes this is definitely in my niche, I can't click your link right now I think the site is down it's not responding for me. But it was an island in a game called Second Life right? Crazy stuff happens in MMORPG's all the time, addiction is a powerful influence and in a game where your reputation is everything then nothing else matters because that has become your life, anyhow that instance is an extreme instance, but things have sold in games alike for several thousands of dollars that are of no value at all in the real world. The games create their own worlds and in that their own economies

Thats absolutely amazing, and it does raise a good point: Whats to stop any of us from investing a few hundred or a few thousand bucks into a team of outsourcers and doing something similar?

The place sold here was popular when the game itself was first getting popular, so they had that going for them. Trying to make a place this popular now isn't going to happen. Feel free to try though.

Also, this game isn't really an MMORPG as that's normally reserved for actual games instead of virtual worlds. An MMOG for sure (Massively Multiplayer Online Game).

I sold MYMMO.com about 3 years ago, the buyer didn't do anything with it although at the time it was an interesting sale.

Crazy. I am playing WoW...in the past you could make money farming and selling gold, but the market now is dominated by ultra-cheap Asians.

As for people spending millions on such virtual goods, as crazy as it sounds, some hardcore players literally spend their "life" in such games...spending more hours in a virtual world as opposed to the real world....so in some odd sense it has value for them. But you must be a hardcore player to understand

I'm really heavy into MMORPG's, in one of the ones I used to play, (FFXI) I saw high level characters make real life money all the time by killing high level monsters for newbies wanting certain drops from them.
They would pay up to $500.00 for these items and high level characters were flooded with requests because there were very few high level characters when the game first started getting popular who could solo these monsters.
Back in it's prime, people would pay up to 2500.00 for accounts with high level characters on them.
It is true, some people really value this stuff like it is something tangible and not just a collaboration of pretty pixels.
You just have to be a gamer to understand the addiction.
As a WoW player, I see it all the time, and am about half way there myself

There is a niche for everything. My friend use to sell FFXI (or whatever number) for $500/each on craigslist. I tryed to sell my WoW characters, but I'm not focused enough to power level.

That game is actually kinda cool. Club NeverDIE was the biggest ever sale before the one quoted above and I hear he is doing VERY well with his investment

Raking-in the cash with a virtual club, imagine that. No hassles with drunk people, fighting, and so forth.. at least no physical damage is made to the property or people.. awesome ;D

Every time I think I have an open mind, something comes along and shows me that I don't. My main business is in domain names, and you can count the # of domain sales in that range over the past few years on one hand...

I don't think I can see virtual worlds as "real" until the central powers that run them give power to the players, or until a virtual world "rises up" from a community and catches on. When virtual worlds become open-sourced, I think they could be something to truly invest in.

I think it comes down to the fabric of the game. Does the fabric seek profit or does it seek to empower the player? Right now, I only know of for-profit worlds. What I would like to see is for-profit individuals working in non-profit, non-centralized, worlds.
