I need help to address this wordpress related problem.

Hello Warriors,

I have been doing wordpress for quite some time already but this time I am having some difficulties in sorting this problem out.

I got a new client and he set up the wordpress site himself. Now, in his posts, his name will be shown as the poster. This is so because the username is his first name. Now, he wanted me to change that into admin.

When I checked "Your Profile" inside the wordpress dashboard, I found out that usernames cannot be changed.

At the moment, I have to consult him first if I have to add a new user.

Is there any other way for me to address that issue concerning the name of the poster that will be shown below each Post Title?

Any information you may provide will be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
MagicLouie

  • I would think you have to do it through phpMyAdmin, if it can be done. I've never tried it, so I can't make any guarantees.

You can still change it. It should be fairly easy to change user names for each post. You just create a user and have them post with it. You can do it this way::
How to change the default admin WordPress login name:

    1. Using your hosts MySQL administration tool (I.E. phpmyadmin), locate and select your WordPress database
    2. From your WordPress database, locate and select the wp_users table (Note: the wp prefix may differ) and then click the browse icon
    3. Locate admin and click the edit icon
    4. Under the user_login column, change admin to your preferred WordPress administrative login name and then click go

or you can just follow this other instructions::
    Change Your Username « Support — WordPress.com

The video there is pretty clear. If you can't figure this out let me know!

    Guys,

You are mixing different things... When you are editing your user profile there are 4 fields:
    username
    first
    last
    nickname

And you can select as "display" name any of the above or the combination of last and first. Just check the dropdown menu...

So in the case of the OP: make the nickname "admin" and select that to be displayed on post.

Will that change the name on the older posts as well, Istvan?

        yep.

[according to the WF system the above answer is too short to be posted]

But when you use a nickname to be displayed as the author name, the username will still show up when you hover over it in a post.

Just log in to php myadmin
click wp-user and change the username. easy. it is not complicated.

Sometimes we need to do complicated things to learn. Doing that, you might start to learn something new. Maybe you will soon learn how to edit your Wordpress using php myadmin.
        Goodluck!

Awesome, I went ahead and dug the relevant php database, and the change I made now reflects the name I wanted to see as the author name for this WP site (not just the display name, but also when I hover over it). Thanks, Stacy and Clou
