Video Critique -- Advice Appreciated

Was wondering if anyone would be willing to critique a new demo video I made? This is honestly the first time I've made a video like this, so not quite sure about it. I don't want this to be seen as spam, so I put it on a simple IP address instead of a website. URL is here:

Created by Camtasia Studio 7

Any advice you guys could give would be greatly appreciated though. Am I on the right track. I think the length of 6 mins is ok. I wouldn't mind a minute or two shorter, but there's alot of information to get in, so that will do. The other thing is a new soundtrack starting at about 1:35, but haven't found a suitable one yet.

Thanks in advice!

I think it's good. The opening sequence is innovative and the music choice fits well.

What are you going to use this video for? As a sales pitch, 6 mins is waaaaaaaaaaaay too long. If you're going to use it to generate traffic, I would split the video in two - have an into of about 2 mins, and the rest as a more in depth look after people have opted in. I'd also make the webpage title more unique - i.e. remove the ref. to Camtasia.

Yeah, maybe I should do that, eh? Build a list, and all that. It will be going on the home page of the website (once I redesign it), as right now there's just a video of me talking to my computer screen for 17 minutes. Apparently, people find my beautiful voice quite boring.

Hence why I made this video. You're right, maybe I should start doing the marketer thing, put a squeeze page with a 2 min video, then opt-in to get into the site and view the rest. Build a list, and all that jazz... not sure if I want to do that though, as it seems kinda spammy.

      Thanks for the advice!

        Hello,

The background music is very loud. Also I think you should try talking instead of music all the time. It keeps viewer attention more than just music.

Looks great for a first time and I know how tedious and frustrating Camstasia can be. One thing to think about would be a zoom to that menu on the left. I found myself trying to squint and read some of the options over there. Since you are obviously targeting experienced webmasters with many sites to manage, believe me when I tell you, they will want to see for themselves what that menu contains.

The green with black font, to be honest, isn't the easiest to read at a low quality resolution. Transparency is cool and all but overall you want even your older more visually challenged viewers to be able to read the messages which pop up. Maybe consider lowering the transparency or pick a more contrasting color for the box around the text.

All in all though, a job well done on your first video. Might be a good idea to physically write down all the features you have shown. Then filter the list by which features will be the most attractive selling points for the software. That way you could shorten the video some and end it with a more detailed tour of the menu options themselves, at least a quick fly around the main page menus so visitors get a good look at what they are buying. Visual curiosity could be on your side here just as much as clearly outlining every little detail.

I think you did a good job. My only critique would be that a serif font was used for the first part. A sans serif font was used for the rest and I think that font is much smatter and looks more updated and professional.

If it were me I would use the sans serif throughout. My first impression on seeing the serif font at the start through me off a bit. I also find serif fonts to be harder to read online.

    According to wikipedia:

"But of those web sites that do specify a font, most use modern sans serif fonts, because it is commonly believed that, in contrast to the case for printed material, sans serif fonts are easier than serif fonts to read on the low-resolution computer screen."

Typeface - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

My personal opinion is that sans serif fonts are more web 2.0

    Nice job on the video!
