Amazon may be buying Borders. Will that affect Amazon affiliates ability to market?

Given the integral role their Associates program has played in establishing the Amazon brand and bolstering the company to its current heights, it wouldn't surprise me if Amazon chose to include Borders in that program, or launch a new equivalent for it, if they were indeed to take them over.

Or at least one would hope so.

It does seem old fashioned bookstores are merging or closing all the time. Amazon should include Borders in their affiliate network.

It'd be interesting to see Amazon enter the brick and mortar sphere, but the bigger concern would be Amazon having to collect sales taxes in any state where they have a physical presence. And since they're known to drop affiliates in states that pass policies that require the collection of sales tax by online retailers, they'd either have to effectively end the affiliate program or revise their policies.
