Photoshop question...

Ok... I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question or not... feel free to move it where it's needed.

I've been using Inkscape for the last few years but now feel the need to switch to photoshop... it only makes sense as everything you buy comes with PSD files. I can't seem to get Gimp to work out the same.

Anyway... I'm looking for some suggestions as to which version to buy? Why are there different versions? I want to be able to create my own banners, images, etc. from scratch.

I've found CS5 for $128 on some random site... is this valid?

Any help would be appreciated.

There are different versions simply because they add a little something new each time. It's not absolute to have the latest version, since they all still give you the basic tools. I use CS4 myself and it's fine. You can start everything from scratch and there tons of tutorials online to learn some really neat tricks. I do original digital art, banners, doctored images, pretty much everything, with photoshop, though I prefer to use Macromedia Flash for line art. Corel Illustrator is a nice program to use, too, if you're really into creating original digital art.

That sounds like it might be a student/teacher edition. If you're a student, or a teacher you can get it for that cheap. I think right now it averages about $250 - $300 if you're not a student/teacher.

Are you sure it's CS5? For $128 I think you're looking at Photoshop Elements. It's a WAY scaled down version the last time I used it (but that was years ago -- maybe it's greatly improved now). A full legitimate copy of Photoshop CS5 is going to run you around $680.

That would be a great deal if it's legitimate... I'm not saying it's not, but there's a few things out of place on that site. It looks like you don't get a physical product at all... everything's a download.

    .info I'm suspicious.

If you refuse to buy it off the official adobe site but instead get it off a 3rd party website might as well just pirate it?

I suggest getting the latest version from Adobe.com . If you buy cheaper versions that are supposedly "cracked" you might run into several problems.

yeah... I felt as though it was suspicious too... which is why I'm here asking about. It's also strange that Microsoft's logo is plastered everywhere.

Or you could get the trial version and just host block.

The CS5 for $128 sounds fishy. What I did was get mine from one of the Academic resellers. I have a son in college and submitted his school ID and used my address to send the product.

That is legit by the way. As long as it's a valid school ID, parents can buy software using it. In fact, many parents are buying the software for their students. You get it cheap and it's a full legit version.
