How much to charge for leads?!

I dunno whether this has been discussed before, but yesterday I came up with an idea and I'm currently in the process of making it a reality.

My gut tells me that this has been done before, but anyways I thought about creating websites that generate leads for local business owners.

For example you create a website about dentists in New Jersey, NY, and then on the sidebar you've got an opti-form which asks for the name, phone number and additional information about what the prospect wants to get done.

Lets say you get 20 of these leads each month. Then you put all of the info into Excel spreadsheet and sendit out to dentist with whom you've arranged the deal and who actually works in that area?

Win/Win situation. You rank easily for these local keywords, get traffic and leads, whereas the local business owner only pays for leads that are already qualified.

Watcha think guys?

Lets say that local business charges $500 for the service. Do you think charging $20/lead is a good price? too much? too little?

I mean if you've got one website that gets 20 leads per month ($400/month) then all you need is 25 of these kinds of websites to hit five figures each month and in my humble opinion you can go way beyond 25 because there are so many different industries/cities/towns and etc. You could even take this to the next level and do the same thing for business owners in Germany, France, Spain and so on.

Im wondering if anyone has tried to sell leads to local business owners? Maybe someone at least heard something?

What do you think?

Thanks!

Yes, generating leads for businesses has been done before. But that's a good sign, it means there's money to be made generating leads.

There would be so many factors to consider how much to charge for these leads... a medical or dental industry should be able to pay a premium.

I would have the leads fill out a comprehensive form, almost like an application. Collect as much information as possible from these leads.

You might want to consider having them pay a small *application fee... this would make them even more qualified since they would be proving themselves to be serious. This would also help fund your website and advertising.

Then when you're ready to sell them, it would be pure profit.

Greatness is difficult to appreciate from close up. The great mountain on the horizon is only the ground when you are standing on it.

I'm in the Insurance Biz. $25-$35 is standard. I'm sure a Dentist wouldn't sweat that either.

Great idea. Several programs like Wealth Affiliate have been promoting "local" marketing as the next new wave of internet business.

Your idea - very local and personal - would fit right in. The internet will allow you to focus on a specific region. I thing others in the forum are right - dentists and other professionals will pay for quality leads.

Imagine if you could build a local reputation for generating quality leads that converted in one niche. Set up the local program and then build it city by city or region by region.

I think you are really on to a great idea. Best of luck !

Do some research on what other lead brokers charge. Also, simply ASK the prospect what a qualified lead is worth to them. You might be surprised by the answer.
