How To Make 6 Figures Per Year Online While Working Full Time

Hi there,

As many warriors are either in full time or part time employment in the "off line" world I thought I'd share 20 of my tips for replacing your day job income AND MORE while working in your "normal" job.

1. The most important part of this process is creating the right mindset. You MUST believe that you can do it. If you doubt yourself and don't believe in yourself you're making your goals all the more harder to reach.

2. You MUST create a plan about how you will make money online...This involves doing some research. If it's affiliate marketing then you have to decide on whether you will pay for traffic or use free methods that take more sweat and tears.

3. You MUST be prepared to work for it. Too often I get emails from people who are expecting overnight success with little work involved. This is completely unrealistic. If you were the owner of an offline business you'd go bust overnight if you spent no time in it. It is exactly the same in the online world.

4. You MUST be prepared to put aside some money every month to grow your business. Unfortunately there seems to be the mistaken belief that you can create a massive business online with little invested back in. It's just not possible. You must be prepared to throw some cash into your business every month - both to maintain it and to grow it.

Taking the offline world as an example, if you were to purchase a popular franchise that could cost you up to a million dollars or more. And you would have to expend that money before you saw any money back - you'd be working very hard to get that kind of money returned any time soon.

Now I'm not saying that you have to invest a million dollars into your online businesses - far from it. We're fortunate enough that we can actually spend a couple hundred a month and get returns of thousands of dollars....It's just a matter of being wise where you spend your money and being smart about how you reinvest it back into your business.

5. You MUST be prepared to put in even just a little effort every single day into your internet businesses if you can. My personal experience has found that that builds a lot of momentum rather than doing it in larger batches one day a week.

6. You MUST be prepared to make sacrifices. The net is not where you get money for nothing. You have to have the foresight to understand that this is a longer term goal than a shorter one. As an example, in my first 3 months I made $1000 per month. A year later it had grown to $4000 to $5000 per month and a year later, NOW, it is well over $15,000 per month. If I had just focused on the initial $1000 figure I may well have given up but instead I had the patience and the foresight to see this as a long term plan - NOT A GET RICH QUICK PLAN.

7. You HAVE TO believe in yourself even when others don't. Quite often your partners/spouses/family members will only see you spending money and doing a lot of research and expanding your education. They may not understand the big picture. They are probably expecting you to make money overnight or it's a hopeless scenario. That's not true. If you have faith in yourself then you're halfway there. When your family members start doubting you then send them some blog posts on this forum where warriors have shared their inspirational stories.

8. DON'T GIVE UP! There is only ONE WAY that you can guarantee to fail online and that's by giving up. Don't do it. I actually started marketing in 2001 and gave up a couple of years later, a dismal failure. If I hadn't started again in 2005/2006 I'd now be missing out on a massive online income....so don't give up.....

9. Keep trying until you find what works for you. If you actually did a poll of every warrior in this forum you'd find there are probably 100s of methods that people are using to make money online. So you tried pay per click and that didn't work, then look at blogging, article marketing, video marketing etc-- find what works for you (you'll know when that happens) and rinse and repeat.

10. NEVER stop learning. Probably the day when you think you've learnt everything there is to know online is the day that your business will start to decline. One thing that happens with the internet is that it never stops evolving. Me being a Gemini, that's probably why I find it so invigorating. Methods that worked last year may not work so well now...

11. DON'T get overwhelmed. One of the main reasons why people give up online is because they get totally bamboozled and confused. You'll know when that's about to happen - your head starts spinning. When that happens take a break - however long you need to - to clear your head...even if it takes a day or two.

12. BE CHOOSY in who you follow. There are so many experienced internet marketers that every Warrior can learn from. A word of caution - trying to follow too many people at the one time will only confuse you and have you doing nothing. It's just like too many chefs spoil the broth. Follow only one or two marketers until you've learnt as much as you can from them and only then look at learning from others.

13. Work SMARTER not harder. For those of us with families and in employment clearly time is limited. For this reason you really need to plan out your marketing activities and do what takes the smallest amount of time for the biggest results.

14. Make SMALL GOALS. Now if you started internet marketing today and said to yourself okay next month I want to make $10,000 you're setting a very high goal post for yourself and setting yourself up for a fall. Instead make small goals such as - your first goal is to make $10 per day online....your next goal is to make $20 per day online, your next goal is to make $50 per day online...etc...Smaller goals are much more achievable than one massive one from the start.

15. Spend A LOT OF TIME AT THIS FORUM. The Warrior Forum contains the best marketers in the world, and the wealth of knowledge is incredible - and so is the generosity of heart. This is THE BEST LEARNING GROUND for anyone wanting to make money online.

16. BE GRATEFUL for what you have every single day. It's important to recognise your blessings every day and give thanks for them so that you can get more blessings thereafter.

17. BE GENEROUS in mind, wallet and spirit. Don't be stingy with your knowledge, your ability and your wallet. Share what you have so that you can be replenished with more to give away.

18. KEEP A DAILY MARKETING DIARY. I write in my diary every single day about results I've had, tasks to do, tasks I've done, sales I've made....so that I can always look back at a certain period to remember what I did to get a certain result.

19. PRINT OUT AN INCOME GOAL CHART and look at it every day.

20. BE CONSISTENT AND PERSISTENT. Don't be lazy about performing the tasks that you need to perform. Once you get it right you'll be able to outsource many of your tedious tasks.

I hope these 20 tips help you create the right environment to make your internet marketing dreams come true.

Warmly

Colleen

PS: Okay, warriors after reading the thread posts I'm going to continue giving....if you like this thread then please subscribe to is as I share some motivational posts to keep you motivated into the new year

MOTIVATIONAL POST 1: DREAM YOUR LIFE

Impossible is Just a Word

Everyone, at some point of his or her life, has dreamed of being somebody special, somebody big. Who hasn't fantasized about being the one who hits the game-winning homer? Who hasn't dreamed of being the homecoming queen? And how many times have we dreamed of being rich, or successful, or happy with our relationships?

Often, we dream big dreams and have great aspirations. Unfortunately, our dreams remain just that - dreams. And our aspirations easily collect dust in our attic.

This is a sad turn of events in our life. Instead of experiencing exciting adventures in self actualization, we get caught up in the humdrum of living from day-to-day just barely existing.

But you know what?

Life could be so much better, if only we learned to aim higher.

The most common problem to setting goals is the word impossible. Most people get hung up thinking I can't do this. It's too hard. It's too impossible. No one can do this.

However, if everyone thought that, there would be no inventions, no innovations, and no breakthroughs in human accomplishment.

Remember that scientists were baffled when they took a look at the humble bumblebee. Theoretically, they said, it was impossible for the bumblebee to fly. Unfortunately for the bumble, bee no one has told it so. So fly it does.

On the other hand, some people suffer from dreaming totally outrageous dreams and not acting on them. The result? Broken dreams, and tattered aspirations.

If you limit yourself with self-doubt, and self-limiting assumptions, you will never be able to break past what you deem impossible. If you reach too far out into the sky without working towards your goal, you will find yourself clinging on to the impossible dream.

Try this exercise.

Take a piece of paper and write down some goals in your life. Under one header, list down things 'you know you can do'. Under another header, write the things 'you might be able to do.' And under one more, list the things that that are 'impossible for you to do.'

Now look at all the headers strive every day to accomplish the goals that are under things 'you know you can do'. Check them when you are able to accomplish them. As you slowly are able to check all of your goals under that heading, try accomplishing the goals under the other header-the one that reads 'you might be able to do.'

As of the items you wrote under things I could do are accomplished, you can move the goals that are under things that are 'impossible for you to do' to the list of things 'you might be able to do.'

As you iterate through this process, you will find out that the goals you thought were impossible become easier to accomplish. And the impossible begin to seem possible after all.

You see, the technique here is not to limit your imagination. It is to aim high, and start working towards that goal little by little. However, it also is unwise to set a goal that is truly unrealistic.

Those who just dream towards a goal without working hard end up disappointed and disillusioned.

On the other hand, if you told someone a hundred years ago that it was possible for man to be on the moon, they would laugh at you. If you had told them that you could send mail from here to the other side of the world in a few seconds, they would say you were out of your mind. But, through sheer desire and perseverance, these impossible dreams are now realities.

Thomas Edison once said that genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Nothing could be truer. For one to accomplish his or her dreams, there has to be had work and discipline. But take note that that 1% has to be a think-big dream, and not some easily accomplished one.

Ask any gym rat and he or she will tell you that there can be no gains unless you are put out of your comfort zone. Remember the saying, "No pain, no gain"? That is as true as it can be.

So dream on, friend! Don't get caught up with your perceived limitations. Think big and work hard to attain those dreams. As you step up the ladder of progress, you will just about find out that the impossible has just become a little bit more possible.

Subscribe to the thread and look out for my motivational posts over the next few days.

    Hi Colleen.

    Thanks for the great advice.

I agree. Mindset really is the most important factor.

I hope to really turn things around and follow in your footsteps next year.

Have a great New Year Colleen.

    Kind Regards

      I couldn't agree more.

As a fellow FP member, I must say you're a true inspiration.

I'll print this list out and try to live up to them all.

Re number 11. This is self inflicted - people should guard themselves vigilantly against being marketed to. The premise of 'just subscribing to learn from Guru X' will bury most people.

Stick to only one or two people to follow.

      Hey James.

      Great advice.

Unfortunately it sometimes takes a real big list to find those who really know what they are talking about.

      That's been my experience anyway.

Have a great New Years in good old Steak & Kidney.....

I'm sure we'll be getting plenty of vision of the bridge down here on NYE.

      Cheers

      Brett.

Tip: Clear the inbox and divert all "marketing" mail to a separate gmail account. Check it after two weeks and unsubscribe from anyone who has sent promo after promo after promo.

Next bookmark IMNewswatch and check it once a day. Now you are 'in the loop'.

Promoters will steal your time and keep you in a permanent buying loop, stopping you from being a marketer IF YOU LET THEM.

If you don't have a plan you will fall into someone elses. They don't have much good planned for you....

Yup, I was just noticing that -- again -- in the last few days, where I found my carefully laid plans blasted in some promotional fever. One is VERY worthwhile ... super-relevant to what I do (copywriting) and the savings/urgency was great (save over $1000).

That was awesome Colleen, glad I"m on your list otherwise I would have missed that little nugget. I love what you say about having a plan and when you actually have a solid one it keeps you grounded and focused preventing you from getting caught up in point number 12.

I think that's where I went wrong for a long time, there are too many great programs out there and only so many hours in the day so now I'm being more selective and focusing on one or two things at most.

Thanks again for the great advice.

Excellent post. I agree with all of your points except number 15.

I think a lot of new people make the mistake of lurking in forums forever and never taking action. Some people need to go on an "Information Diet" in the new year. The need to stop spending all of their time in forums and tack action to build their business.

I would change 15 to -- "Spend time learning every day" -- just not too much.

      Thanks,

Maze, that's an excellent question, and one I asked Colleen myself
(because I knew someone would ask!)

In part, it has to do with future retirement benefits. (one form of passive income.)

And, Colleen is cutting back on the number of hours she works starting next year..

She can answer more fully when she gets up (still early in OZ-land.)

I agree with this. Although it is important to spend time in forums to learn and pay back what you've learnt.

Time management is the key here. The more time you're spending in forums the less work you're getting done.

I want to comment a bit more on "sacrifices."

Colleen gets up early in the morning, every day, before going to work. That's where the 60 minutes comes from.
And having worked with Colleen for the last few months, I can attest that she does this regularly.

Some of you may think -- "ack, I could never do that!"

But it's really about making things become habitual.

Habits are perceived to be difficult to establish at first, indeed, even painful -- primarily because of the change in routine. It takes conscious effort.

This is true of nearly any habit.

Psychological studies have shown that human beings can adapt to FAR WORSE things than getting up early in the morning to work for 30-60 minutes.

It is, after all, at worst, a bit of inconvenience.

As time goes on, it becomes comfortable, familliar, and something you actually look forward to. (Especially when you keep track of your activities and see that you are making progress...and then, on to making money.)

And, of course you can also consider yourself virtuous -- and have friends, relatives and even enemies admire you for your "sacrifice" (while you laugh all the way to the bank...who is sacrificing what here?)

                Hi Judy,

you're right about sacrifices. You can't expect to get something for no effort being put in....I can't expect to make money online by just doing exactly what I did yesterday.

                I have to take action.

                I have to learn.

I have to get up an hour earlier a day.

The time that I've put into it in the last two years IS NOW GIVING ME BOTH TIME AND MONEY BACK.

All those 60 minute sessions I've had now mean I could actually "retire" from the traditional workforce.

That wouldn't be possible without having started affiliate marketing.

That wouldn't be possible without having made sacrifices.

I'M GOING TO ADD TIP 21:

                STOP MAKING EXCUSES.

Hey, we could all come up with a list of probably 50 reasons NOT to make sacrifices and NOT do it.

How about coming up with ten for why you should?

I quite often get emails from people with one excuse after another - oh, I work full time, I have no time left in the day, I have a family, I can't do this etc.

With that mentality I can guarantee that you won't.

Don't think about what you are giving up right now - THINK ABOUT WHAT THAT WILL GIVE YOU IN MAYBE A YEAR, TWO YEARS, THREE YEARS ETC.

Your potential is only limited by what you're telling yourself. I guarantee that.

I have one Firepow student of mine who I won't name, but she's following my advice to the letter. She's doing the diary, she's taking action, she's messaging me every day with what she's done during the day, including the sales she's making. She's hit it on the nail and I have no doubt she'll be right where I am now in a year or so.

You need to set yourself on fire - be excited, be inspired, be brave -- and just do it afraid...and believe in yourself AND DON'T LET ANYONE PUT YOU DOWN.

                Warmly

                  Here's an important piece...

What you focus on is WHAT YOU GET.

If you focus on (ask yourself) -- "Why can't I succeed?"

You'll get answers -- but they won't be useful answers.
They're the same answers you've been telling yourself over & over.
                  "No money.", "No time." etc.

                  Change the question around ..

                  "How can I succeed?"

Our brains are wonderful answer-seeking creations; when our conscious mind directs our brain by asking questions -- our brains ANSWER!

When you expect answers, you'll get them.
But you do have to switch your brain on to seeking useful answers by asking the right questions.

why would you be working if your making six figures
Why wouldn't you once you've found you can do it? The challenge then becomes working less hours and earning the same six figures every year to keep enjoying your lifestyle.

Thank you Colleen! Very inspirational for those of us still working full time at a J.O.B.

It seems that a number of folks disagree with #15. As someone who spends a small amount of time generally in any forum, I'd say that perhaps it could be amended, but it is still good advice.

I'd suggest it possibly be amended to be "Spend A LOT OF TIME AT THIS FORUM - AFTER you finish your other marketing tasks!"

One of my goals for 2009 is to spend MORE time in this forum, and I have what I think is a very good reason why. I sometimes feel isolated. Sure, I'm guilty in some ways of not following #12 and being on almost every list.

I do this so I feel like I'm more a part of the IM community. Most of the people I know don't understand my desire to do this, and can't imagine not having a J.O.B., which makes it harder sometimes. And I sometimes forget what a great community this forum can be, especially when I need a little encouragement.

I can relate to the majority of scenarios listed. In particular numbers 11 and 12. When I first came into this industry I was trying to move too fast. And coupled with the fact that I had people telling me to do one thing this way and another saying to do the complete opposite I was stomped. Thanks for this!

I am doing a lot of those.

there are a few I am trying to do better (spend a lot of time in here) or learn more about or do better (creating a plan, work smarter, not harder, choosy who you follow)

There are a couple I don't do at all....income goal chart and marketing diary. my goal is to make more every week and i'm not much into journaling. I can see value in those things but I just don't see myself doing it.

    Still, great list.

Hi guys, thanks for your feedback. Obviously 15 has ended up being a bit controversial....Yes i can understand that you could spend TOO much time here....I agree if you have the time to spend a few minutes a day here then do so - you're guaranteed to learn something. If you have a question here is one of the best places to ask them and get a response - guaranteed.

Regarding your questions about why I'm still working in my current day job?

It's one I've had for over 20 years now, since I started working and one that I really enjoy and actually works a different side of my brain to internet marketing and I REALLY LOVE IT. Believe me, if I didn't I'd give it the flick.

Also, as Judy says, that is where my retirement income is currently being built up and I want it to keep growin there too.

The other thing is that after going through a divorce many years ago I've never been able to get back into the house market - and in that time Sydney has become the most expensive place in the world to buy your first home....and for me that's my biggest goal. Buying our own home - and ultimately paying it off REAL QUICK - and then I can reassess my working goals.

I'm also lucky in my current job that I can work as little as one day a week if I wanted to part time and still reap the other benefits.

So I expect that the way my internet businesses have built up over the last 2 years that this time next year I'll be only working 2 days a week in my "normal" day job....I do earn a high income in my day job too so that has been a big motivator to keep going and pay of debt and save, save, save, if you know what I mean.

But ultimately I replaced my day job income in about June last year so that was a great goal to have achieved in about a year and a half - if I wanted to I could retire from the traditional work force for the rest of my life.

Happy new year everyone, New years eve here in Oz.

That was dead on! Mindset is absolutely the first thing we need to focus on. Often people have a "give it a quick try" mentality towards internet marketing, and get frustrated when things don't quickly happen for them. Focus on long term growth and mindset and goal setting, and you'll get there.

Colleen, I think your latest addition - STOP MAKING EXCUSES is a great one and something that everyone should pay attention to.

I wonder how many people out there are not making money because....

    They don't have time...
They don't know if they should do it...
They don't know how to build a website...

Or any of the other million excuses there are. Instead of focusing on "excuses" start shooting for results and enjoy the ride

    I disagree with:
    17. BE GENEROUS in mind, wallet and spirit. Don't be stingy with your knowledge, your ability and your wallet. Share what you have so that you can be replenished with more to give away.
To run a successful business you need to guard your wallet like a gargoyle.

Every penny counts and if you splash them here and there they soon add up.

Sure it is good to invest wisely however being too tight can cost you in the long run.

Setting Your Goals - Easier Said, Easily Done

The basics of setting a goal is an open secret known by top-caliber athletes, successful businessmen and businesswomen and all types of achievers in all the different fields. The basics of setting goals give you short-term and long-term motivation and focus. They help you set focus on the acquisition of required knowledge and help you to plan and organize your resources and your time so that you can get the best out of your life.

Setting clearly defined short term and long term goals will enable you to measure your progress and achieve personal satisfaction once you have successfully met your goals. Charting your progress will also enable you to actually see the stages of completion leading to the actual realization of your goals. This eliminates the feeling of a long and pointless grind towards achieving your goal. Your self-confidence and level of competence will also improve as you will be more aware of your capabilities as you complete or achieve your goals.

The basics of goal settings will involve deciding what you really want to do with your personal life and what short term and long term goals you need to achieve it. Then you have to break down goals into the smaller and manageable targets that you must complete in your way to achieving your lifetime targets. Once you have your list waste no time in tackling your goals.

A good way to have a manageable list is to have a daily and weekly set of goals. By doing this you will be always in the position of going towards you life plan goals. Everyday will give you the opportunity to fulfill a certain goal giving you the feeling of accomplishment.

Here are some pointers that should be taken into consideration in setting goals and achieving them.

Attitude plays a very big role in setting and achieving your goals. You must ask yourself if any part of you or your mind holding you back towards completing your simplest goals? If there are any part of your behavior that is being a hindrance or puts your plans into disarray? If you do have problems in these areas then the immediate thing to do is to address this problem. Solutions may include a visit to a doctor or psychiatrist to control your emotions.

Careers are made by good time management practice. Failing in a career is often attributed to bad time management. Careers require a lot from an individual which often makes the career the life of the individual. Plan how far do you want to go into your career.

Education is key in achieving your goals. If your goals require you to have a certain kind of degree or require a certain specialization or demand a certain skill to be developed, make plans in getting the appropriate education.

Your family should never be left out of your plans. If you are just starting out then you have to decide if you want to be a parent or when you want to be a parent. You also have to know if you really would be a good parent and how well would you relate to extended family members

Personal financial situations also play a major role in achieving your goals. Have a realistic goal on how much you really want to earn. You also must be able to create plans or stages by which you will be able to reach your earning potential.

Physically gifted individuals may be able to achieve sports related goals like being in the National Basketball association or National Football League. Determining your physical capabilities should be one of your priorities. Physical limitations could however be conquered with proper planning.

As the saying goes -'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy', or something to that effect, is by all means true down to the last the letter. Giving yourself a little pleasure: should be included into your plans.

To start achieving your lifetime goals, set a quarter of a century plan, then break it down to 5 year plans then break it down again to 1 year plans, then 6 month plans then monthly plans, then weekly, then daily.

Then create a things-to-do list for the day.

Always review your plans and prepare for contingencies.

The basics of goal settings should not be so difficult once you get to be familiar with them.

    Hi there,

Your secret to real success starts here...

Life Mapping: A Vision of Success

Success is more than economic gains, titles, and degrees. Planning for success is about mapping out all the aspects of your life. Similar to a map, you need to define the following details: origin, destination, vehicle, backpack, landmarks, and route.

    Origin: Who you are

A map has a starting point. Your origin is who you are right now. Most people when asked to introduce themselves would say, "Hi, I'm Jean and I am a 17-year old, senior highschool student." It does not tell you about who Jean is; it only tells you her present preoccupation. To gain insights about yourself, you need to look closely at your beliefs, values, and principles aside from your economic, professional, cultural, and civil status.

Moreover, you can also reflect on your experiences to give you insights on your good and not-so-good traits, skills, knowledge, strengths, and weaknesses. Upon introspection, Jean realized that she was highly motivated, generous, service-oriented, but impatient. Her inclination was in the biological-medical field. Furthermore, she believed that life must serve a purpose, and that wars were destructive to human dignity.

Destination: A vision of who you want to be

"Who do want to be?" this is your vision. Now it is important that you know yourself so that you would have a clearer idea of who you want to be; and the things you want to change whether they are attitudes, habits, or points of view.

If you hardly know yourself, then your vision and targets for the future would also be unclear. Your destination should cover all the aspects of your being: the physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual. Continuing Jean's story, after she defined her beliefs, values, and principles in life, she decided that she wanted to have a life dedicated in serving her fellowmen.

    Vehicle: Your Mission

A vehicle is the means by which you can reach your destination. It can be analogized to your mission or vocation in life. To a great extent, your mission would depend on what you know about yourself. Bases on Jean's self-assessment, she decided that she was suited to become a doctor, and that she wanted to become one. Her chosen vocation was a medical doctor. Describing her vision-mission fully: it was to live a life dedicated to serving her fellowmen as a doctor in conflict-areas.

Travel Bag: Your knowledge, skills, and attitude

Food, drinks, medicines, and other travelling necessities are contained in a bag. Applying this concept to your life map, you also bring with you certain knowledge, skills, and attitudes. These determine your competence and help you in attaining your vision. Given such, there is a need for you to assess what knowledge, skills, and attitudes you have at present and what you need to gain along the way.

This two-fold assessment will give you insights on your landmarks or measures of success. Jean realized that she needed to gain professional knowledge and skills on medicine so that she could become a doctor. She knew that she was a bit impatient with people so she realized that this was something she wanted to change.

    Landmarks and Route: S.M.A.R.T. objectives

Landmarks confirm if you are on the right track while the route determines the travel time. Thus, in planning out your life, you also need to have landmarks and a route. These landmarks are your measures of success. These measures must be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time bound. Thus you cannot set two major landmarks such as earning a master's degree and a doctorate degree within a period of three years, since the minimum number of years to complete a master's degree is two years.

Going back to Jean as an example, she identified the following landmarks in her life map: completing a bachelor's degree in biology by the age of 21; completing medicine by the age of 27; earning her specialization in infectious diseases by the age of 30; getting deployed in local public hospitals of their town by the age of 32; and serving as doctor in war-torn areas by the age of 35.

    Anticipate Turns, Detours, and Potholes

The purpose of your life map is to minimize hasty and spur-of-the-moment decisions that can make you lose your way. But oftentimes our plans are modified along the way due to some inconveniences, delays, and other situations beyond our control. Like in any path, there are turns, detours, and potholes thus; we must anticipate them and adjust accordingly.

    Warmly
