We added an optional custom field:

{!custom_industry} to our optin form. Based on our tracking, we're getting sales conversions we've never had specific to this message.

First Name
Email
Your Industry:

- Nearly EVERY person provides their industry. We then serve back in the FU message something like this:

Hey {!firstname_fix},

Ever wonder how others in the {!custom_industry} business are generating more new customers and clients...?

etc.


-------------------------

You can also serve the AREA CODE of the lead, also:
{!geog_area_code}


Hey {!firstname_fix},

How's business around within the {!geog_area_code} area code for you these days?

etc.

    That makes sense... the more people feel understood, the better your conversions. Thanks for sharing.

    My sister is testing out a plugin right now that adds peoples' names into websites and it integrates with the autoresponders. (So it'll say, yourwebsite.com/harry if the person's name is Harry). I'm excited to see her results.

    Great tip, very useful.

    If I read you post correctly, sales are up asking for more info from the opt-in?

    In my experience have found just an e-mail out pulls everything in collecting leads, and also was the best at sales ratio subscriber-to-sale.

    But! I have one niche where I think I'll try out your {!custom_industry} strategy.

    You said that nearly everyone is providing the industry...I'm guessing that's 90% or more? Have you noticed less conversions overall? I wonder if requesting more information from people makes them less likely to sign up.

    Honestly, though, if they're not willing to give just a bit more information anyway...how much are they REALLY looking forward to receiving anything from you at all, right?
