Affiliate marketing the most basic way to go for a beginner?

Hello Warriorforum,
I want to get started with my internet marketing journey soon and I wondered whether affiliate marketing is the "most basic" way to get started.

With most basic I mean; Does it teach the basics of internet marketing in general and can a lot of principles also be used at other internet marketing methods?

Thanks,
Bartoss.

I think affiliate marketing a great place to start. You will learn a lot. You may not make a lot of money right away though. If you need money quick think about offering services.

    EASY affiliate marketing:

First, go get a brand new email (your 1st of many new)...
    then
    ==>Go to Clickbank(.com): sign-up for free.
-In the marketplace at CB, type a word (something you want to sell) into the search box. Look through the offers and find one you like. Click on the promote button and copy the link in the top box. Paste that code into a text editor on your desktop.

**Need an idea for which product to try and sell?
-- go to googletrends and see what is popular right now.

Next, You are going to want to buy a domain name and get some hosting... I am 'affiliated' with some, so i will not recommend any here... but you can find them easy.

**About the name: relate it to the popular keywords you found on GT first, then incorporate buyer emotion response words that fit..and don't pay more than $10 for the name and $10/mo for the hosting.

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

That is it for now, but...

IF YOU GO DO THAT... then come back here and reply.

After I read your reply, I'll tell you what to do next.

    It really is easy...

    Till then,
    Good-luck!

Really, from this point on you are going to be needing different email adresses to keep your campaigns organized. Sure at the beginning you can manage a few campaigns and your real-life personal emails... but trust me when you start running more and more of them you will eventually have an email per niche that you are involved in, and one for campaign managing, and one for ezine memberships... different ones on different autoresponders...you are going to have a lot. Might as well start out with good organization.
(the same goes for paypal and clickbank accounts)

        *cheers

Actually, the plan that Mel outlined for the OP is very good IMHO lol. The OP will just have to enact that, and adjust to anything that pops up along the way. Its better than step by step hand holding because if they aren't going to be able to adapt to their situation, they will fail in IM eventually anyways.

I agree with you! I have learned that being an online marketer is really a hands on training job. It is good to read those materials about being an online marketer BUT there is nothing like putting what you learned to practice and see how it fares out.

            P.S.
I have discovered a FREE classified site which posts get indexed by Google within days.

That is a kinda easy, no-brainer, too-good-to-be-true step you just gave the fellow. You'll make a good teacher, u knw. Ordinarily, online marketing should give any newbie the chills, just like maths to students. Lol.

Affiliate marketing is definatly the best and least expensive place to start. Its generally free and depending on the product you can make some nice commissions. However you still have to promote your affiliate offers somehow either by driving traffic to your affiliate link or sending it out to an email list. There are many ways to do that but you have to be willing to learn how. Clickbank is probably the largest affiliate site on the web and is very easy to navigate thru and pick products. I would recommend that you find a good affiliate marketing ebook to get started, good luck!

If you want to start with affiliate marketing, I would recommend you make your game plan first. Do you want to build many site promoting amazon products? That's one way to do it and there's people making a full-time income from it. Or, do you want to build a list in one of the evergreen niches and promote affiliate offers to them, which also puts you in a position where you can create your own products down the line.

More often than not people start delving into various different models and master none. So, put some thought into it, pick a model, study it and take massive action.

    All the best.

OK Bartoss, Sorry I couldn't get back sooner...

Ok... I had you pause there because from this point there are a lot of different things you can do... basically you are going to "build" and "promote"... both of which have options:
I'll give you the EASIEST way...

YOU SHOULD MAKE $$ DOING THIS
      :

      'Building':
You can redirect the domain name you just bought, directly to your affiliate link. (no 'website' building involved!)
PRO: easy. fast. the affiliate site is already built, and your domain name will take the customer there...if they buy, you get paid. so simple.
CON: You are not capturing any leads onto your own "list" of people interested in that type offer. Those leads are potential future purchases.
-- For now, just do the redirect... call your domain name provider on the phone; they will walk you through what to do. Later (after you have made a buck or two & got your feet wet)... we can get into auto-responders and squeezepage site-building (the beginning of your cash-sucking-funnel.)

      'Promoting":
Go to Trafficguyser (.com). Watch the intro vid... sign-up for $1... from here, follow what they tell you about creating a promo video with your domain name in it, and then submit that video and lookout! Build another and submit it too, and again... do it a few times.

      - Your video(s) will be everywhere, promoting your "website" (actually just domain)... That "website" instantly redirects to your affiliated page, which pays you when people buy.

      I hope you do this!

-if you build a halfway decent video and your product is a good converter... then you will make money. GL!

** You can change the affiliate product link you 'redirect' to as often as you want.
-This is a good way for you to cheaply test different products in the same niche. find the one that converts best.

(PM me with the link to the product you chose and the domain you bought... I'm also curious who you got it through!)

      Hope this helps!
Enjoy... this is just the beginning!

      -Mel Kryger

      I think that's great advice.

Don't just do it... put together a very simple plan and then stick to it. The experience and learning curve to get started as an affiliate is less than as a product creator.

You have to focus on driving traffic to your site - ideally capturing it and building a list - and converting it into sales by getting clicks on your links.

One of my biggest mistakes as an affiliate was expecting too much too soon. Instead of scaling things after my first few sales I'd move onto something else (a different model or niche) instead of sticking to it and master it.

      Good luck!

    Affiliate marketing is great...

However I bow to the wisdom of Jeff Johnson (he has a super informative Youtube Channel) who says the best position to be in is to be a product owner as this down the line sets you up for massive affiliate commission cheques.

But you can definitely start earning by solely being an affiliate

I think it's always best to have your own product, but starting out, that can be difficult.

As for online affiliate marketing, I actually recommend you forget that at the start and learn everything you can about direct marketing. Too many begin without any understanding of how to sell. All online affiliate marketing really is, is direct marketing with a lot more technology. Once you know you know how to sell, then you can learn the technology.

I hadn't thought about it quite like this, but these are good questions.

Yes, I think it does teach the basics of internet marketing in general, and I think a lot of the principles you need to learn, to do affiliate marketing successfully, can also be used in other internet marketing methods as well.

Having your own product is definitely the way to go ... but

I still build affiliate sites in niches that I find interesting but do not have the time to create products for ... it's okay to mix it up.

I definitely think that, owning a product is the BEST "position" to be in... as far as earning money online. But even "owning" a product does you no good if you do not know how to get people to buy it... so... whereas I do consider it the best position to be in, I think it is a position that most people have to transition into. I think this transition comes from the marketing side of the "create & sell" model.

I noticed the first part of my post (#3 this thread) is missing ** I wonder what happened? Did I accidently DEL? ** well, I meant to include something like this:

--'Yes, affiliate marketing is the easy 'door' in to making money online. Even the big name guys you'll soon be learning about/from who have products that they own... ALL AFFILIATE MARKET... they send solo ads and ad swaps and build mini-sites, and portals, and niche blogs, and membership sites... the point is that "you gotta start somewhere." Lets show you an easy method to get you started:'--
      (or something similar to that)
      -----------
      Look,
You can "create" or "own" or "sell"... but to make killer money, you have to combo them up and do all three, but it is a progression from the bottom to the top. I sell. I own (paid for creation). I am trying to create... I am not on "top" yet but I am trying and my first dabble at this had me uploading php files for squeeze-pages and manually submitting articles,a lot harder to do than what i layed out here... (I plan on showing you that stuff next Bartoss & everyone else!)

**Yes, I purposely kept the "tutorial" simple and did not hold Bartoss's hand (so-to-say) for his own good... and I believe the method I revealed here is good for anyone... beginner or middle (like me) or advanced, I mean who doesn't promote affiliate offers with videos--- maybe people who do not make money? =IT GETS RESULTS...
...IT IS NOT THE ONLY WAY... and in a comprehensive strategy it is just one small part... but it is sooo easy to do, and to explain without stepbysteping too much.

... I also did not want to dump every shred of IM knowledge I have into a post in the main discussion! (this is starting to feel like I need to tag WSO on these posts!! LOL)

      EVERYBODY:
Go Make a few bucks easily, and reinvest into something more risky or complicated or scaled up. Each step of the way learn how to do something new or learn how to bring systems together in new ways... doing that will grow youe=r business and increase your revenues.

to Bartoss: I can't wait to hear about your success!
to anybody-else: do this & make some easy money

I hope you find this post useful.

@MelKryger, Thank you so much for all the valuable information you provided! I chose the self defense niche as I had read somewhere that when you start out with affiliate marketing for the first time something you know a lot about is the way to go.

@Everyone, Thanks for all the input and encouragement. I'm going to try my best!

Edit: Darn, can't pay for the trafficgeyser as I don't have a credit card. Bummer. Do you think just creating a website with a blog is the best way to go?

      Hey Bartoss,

      Thanks for the kind words.

No cc? well then keep that strategy in your pocket until you do...

      -Let's try something else...

But first, to address your question about starting a blog:

Blogging can be a VERY powerful income stream... and though, they are easy to build, there are a lot (I mean A LOT) of ways to go about it.
... as far as the BEST way to go... it could be. However, you will still need to "promote" your blog...
*** The idea of making money online is appealing to many because it caries with it: the possibility of making money in your sleep... THIS ONLY HAPPENS with certain promo strategies (THAT COST MONEY) or else you have to do some serious promotional work just to get noticed out there.

If you want to build a blog, you are going to need to get some training on how to build it, how to fill it with content, which plug-ins to use, what theme to use, get a link cloaker... and eventually, with enough content and GOOD KEYWORD SATURATION you will start to get traffic organically from search engines and such... without a credit card it might be hard to obtain that information...

------perhaps another Warrior can help you with this???-----------

For now, lets get you doing something else to promote your new affiliate link... this is FREE (and nowhere near as PROFITABLE as thousands of video llinks)...
** I picked this strategy for you especially, because it is akin to blogging!

Go to Squidoo (.com) and make a lens: it is like a mini blog! It is FREE!
First, check your competition... see what their self-defence lenses look like. Get some ideas from them, combine the best ideas into yours! Don't forget to put your domain name (redirected to your affiliate link) at the bottom.

There are a lot of "how to" build a 'squidoo lens' videos over on YT.

Now in order to promote that lnew lens, you are going to have to do some work...

      1) Find forums about self defense, sign up to them and start engaging with the community. When the opportunities arise, promote your link to your squidoo lens (not your domain name redirect link) - at those forums.

      2) Write a few articles about self defense. You will need to submit them to article directories with a link back to your squidoo lens.
*** If you do this and get to this point, PM me for my email address; then email me your articles: I will 'spin' them up and create a few more out of them, and submit them to a few 100 directories for you (using software that eventually you too will have, and a service that costs a monthly upkeep.) I'll do this for you once, to help kick-start your earnings.

Well, we just covered a lot... so good luck, and feel free to PM me with any questions.

      You will succeed!

Had to go to family meeting at 5PM just after I made that post and came home at about 2AM. Figured I couldn't just go to bed without taking any action after I got so much help. Figured I could at least set up the lens... Now I am here at 7AM not having slept at all but having done everything. Didn't even realize that time went by although I got a little suspicious when I saw some sunlight getting into my room.
