HELP! New to IM but going nowhere fast

I must be missing the mark or my expectations are too high. I've gone the route of generating subscribers and sending referrals to websites but...no bites. It's been 3 weeks...should I have expected at least some return on investment by now?

you mean you have an email list with some subscribers but no result?
3 weeks is more than enough time to see few results, there must be something wrong

Do you have any suggestions on where I could start "reverse engineering" so to speak, to figure where I might have an issue? That's probably too broad isn't it?

How are you generating subscribers? How are you sending referrals and to what type of websites? Maybe with these answered we can help out a bit better.

    Thanks,
    Fred

I actually paid for the list and the several add campaign were generated from there. Is stating the actual referred site okay here? I don't want to violate any specific "rules" here I might not be aware of.

You mean you bought a list?

That might be the problem. Most marketers around here are adepts of the theory that you should have built a relationship with your list. So that they trust you and they buy what you recommend.

(I know others are not following this route, but they are still successful with other tactics...)

I also am having a problem finding places to advertise for free, that actually generate a lot of traffic. I had a good thing going on Craigslist, but with all of the new changes there.... I've been pretty much shut down Took a big chunk of income away from me But, I'm still optimistic and am keeping my hopes HIGH !!

You could get traffic from the traffic exchanges, but the problem there is your traffic is other sellers who want you to look at their ad's.

I agree. I bought a list (with 100,000 subscribers) a while back. It resulted in zero conversions.

You should build your own list.

I'd suggest that you learn at least two things at first: 1) how to sell and 2) how to get free traffic. Everything else will come. And please don't spend a dime until you make at least a few dollars.

I've done okay at the "how to sell" part. I'm a complete novice at how to sell online :-)
Thanks for the advice on not spending a dime, although I may have already violated that one.

        ...
Of course, I mean "how to sell online".

It's always better to build your own email list rather than buying one. Plus, there's a lot more ways to generate free targeted traffic to your website or affiliate offers.

Jeff, the sad fact is that that the Internet is not rapid money making machine, it takes time sometimes months or even years. You need to provide more details as to what you done.

It sounds as though you have have created a lead capture page, if you have then you need to start communicating with your lead by email and/or phone and building some form of relationship with them, soft selling, find out what their needs are. Just pointing them to an affiliate site rarely works.

A common mistake is to keep sending out the same message if you do you will find that either they unsubscribe or block your emails. I have some subscribers who I emailed for over a year until they took the plunge when the time way right for them.

You can use an autoresponder to send out emails space the first few a day or two apart then then extend the gap to weeks or months that way it will not seem you are bugging them.

Now I notice you are referring them to website(s) promoting multiple sites can be difficult. You do not want you customers to think you are jumping from one opportunity to another.

How much research did you carry out prior to investing.

Ah, I have just seen you brought a list, sorry that is a big mistake you need to generate your own leads, I have yet to find anyone who has purchased unique list, most so called lists you can buy are garbage and when you contact them, you will often find they have been already contacted by many other people.

No need to rush things, earning money is not automatic. It takes time and hard work to fully accomplish your goal of making your first income through online. Learn and study the basics, probably there might be something you have missed and requires an evaluation to that. Patience is a virtue.

Start by building the brand of you. Get yourself out there and start communicating in as many ways as possible. Tell your story so your customers can relate, build their trust. Create a blog to use as your home base and perform honest reviews of the products that you are affiliating with.

Never stop experimenting. Good business is trial and error. Make quick decisions and never linger. Always move forward and take actions. Review your outcomes and make adjustments accordingly - rinse and repeat. The only way you can fail is if you cease experimentation. Bad results are feedback which equate to progress.

I'm also newish to the I-M world. I experimented back in early 2010 and got
sucked in buying the latest products and failed, prob 60% my fault 40% getting
    sucked in.

I'm pleased to say i'm back in the I-M market and have joined a really nice
coaching program thats helping heaps!!! Finally!!

The MAIN focus of the coaching is definitely
    -BUILD YOUR OWN LIST!!!
-Build Relationships with your list and continue building,
    -Dont keep sending aff offers.

I have 93 subs that i built 2 weeks ago, and they are still
    sticking around.

No money made online yet, but i'm not selling to my list yet,
just trying to make it bigger.

    All the best

There are im'ers that can sell to their list faster than flicking a switch, while others feel like a fish swimming in porridge when it comes to selling.

One main difference between "building your own list" and buying a list is that "building your own" allows you to interact with your subscribers and to build a relationship with them, that nutures trust.

Personally, (others may disagree), a bought list isn't worth much as the people on these list are often scraped just for the purpose of earning the seller cash and/or they have been sold to so many times by "strangers" that they probably ignore any mails they get, hit their "Add to junk" button and that leaves the list buyer wondering what is wrong.

Quite a few of us have done the same thing in the past

There's quite a few good comments been made on the thread here so far and if you start to build you own list and take your time, you should do well

    wow where do I begin

First you need to keep directing all your traffic to an optin page that converts well, help your prospect and offer them stuff.

Ok, its just a cut down version, but keep coming back in here and reading the warrior forum and people who add to your thread. Alot of good advice I can see in here

It sounds like you are trying to find the "make quick money" button by buying a list... if you want to build a real online business, I highly suggest taking a step back and looking at how to do things differently. Decide what your end goal is... advertising an affiliate product? Creating your own product? From there start building a list yourself. You will get much better conversions if the list actually wants to get emails from you!

I'll agree with the consensus. It can take up to a year before you start seeing real revenue from online marketing. Some people can start earning in their first month BUT this is a very rare and small group of people. Personally, it took me about 4-5 months of constant study, analysis and tries before I started earning. Keep at it though! The first 6 months of IM is a very important factor in your future success.

    Best of luck,

great post by golden gloves. The first thing i was told in my coaching was, this is
going to take time, could take up to a year before the list is regularly responsive.

im just trying to concentrate on trying to build my list bigger, to give me more a choice and chance when i do promote an affiliate offer......lets face it, not like there a countdown timers to no more affiliate products ever

theres launches everyday, so im going to follow my mentors advice and take my time, would be nice to see some cash a month from now tho, just to add a little extra motivation
