Good membership plugin in Wordpress please?

Hi, I'm uploading a few videos on a WP site that I need to password protect

(ie. only people who have the password can access and view them)

Is there a good Wordpress plugin you'd recommend for a simple membership site?

Thank you

There are a couple if you want a premium version then you can use:

    Wishlist Member

It does cost a license fee but does offer you loads of options.

If you are looking for a free version then I suggest you look at:

    S2Member

There are loads of options, type it in Google and see what you can find...

There is a list of some here. There are both paid and free ones on it. The ones I see mentioned most here on WF are the ones in the post above though, ao maybe they are worth checking out first.

Digital Access Pass (DAP) is without a doubt the best plugin on the market.

If you would like WishList member to do what DAP does you would need to join their $20 per month membership program. Plus, the key plug-ins that you actually need have already been archived inside the membership. So, you are out of luck when it comes to making WishList anywhere close to DAP.

So, without a doubt DAP is the best membership plug-in for WordPress on the market! The only reason more people know about WishList than they do about DAP is because it has been around longer, and the marketing is a little bit better.

Other than that DAP blows WishList member out of the water in my opinion.

How would your rate the RAP/RAP Press combo compared to DAP?

            Thanks,

there is actually a feature inside of Optimizepress that will allow you to secure a members area and protect posts. But, it stinks compared to DAP or WishList member.

The plugin I use on several WP blogs is: WP SalesAutomator | Wordpress Membership & Product Sales Plugin

It's name is rather unfortunate, because it's a great plugin for what you need. As their website says -
It's a WordPress Membership Plugin & Digital Products Plugin in One!

Take a look. I love it. BTW, this is NOT an affiliate link :-)I'm just happy to recommend their product.

Sorry for trotting out the same answer every few days, but the same question gets asked every few days.

Firstly, have a search on here for "membership plugin" you'll find loads of threads with helpful and not so helpful threads where this has been discussed thousands of times over.

The bottom line is there are half a dozen long running respectable plugins that cover all the major bases when it comes to membership sites (and vary considerably in price). Personally I think WishList is over rated and over priced, constantly recommended by people who haven't spent much time looking at the alternatives (somebody likened it to being the Microsoft of Membership, which I'm sure isn't a compliment). DAP is a great plugin, which I'd unreservedly recommend if it wasn't for the fact I feel our own plugin has finally surpassed it, however Ravi (like ourselves) does give great support, so where our product doesn't fit people's needs his is normally the one I suggest.

Also for other alternatives, Gleb (another fellow Warrior like myself and Ravi) has Memberwing which can do some very clever things with Membership Levels, our own plugin "Your Members" which as well as doing secure streamed video properly is (as far as I know) still the only membership plugin that allows you to protect and sell your content inside Facebook too and WPMU Dev which whilst quite new, copes with Multisite installations of WordPress better than the others.

But most of all, take time to find the one that fits your needs, don't just jump for the emporer's new clothes because everyone else is using it and don't go for the most expensive as cost doesn't always equal quality.

This is by far the best advice for me. Thanks Glen.

Really from my research, for certain products "you get what you paid for" CANNOT BE APPLIED. I would have been deceived if I didn't dig deeper.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the full-featured S2member even though it is free. Free but already awesome. And for more extended features, there is the Pro Addon.

I haven't used Your Members or DAP yet. Seems I'm stucked between choosing either of it. The last thing to do is to check out major complaints in the internet about them. If the complaints are irrelevant to my concern, then I have a winner.

Based on what I found, if we're planning on SEQUENTIAL CONTENT DRIPPING, then either of these would be a good choice: DAP, Your Member and S2Member.

If we're planning on digital product e-commerce then eMembers and WPSA are good. WPSA is a very good one despite having a very low startup price. The addons to it are also very low in price. These addons such as coupons and affiliates are sold very expensive by other providers..

Depends on what fits our direction. Best thing is to do a features chart and dig about complaints before buying any of them.

My pleasure. I take the view that I'm not here to make a quick buck. I'd rather get a reputation for good advice and general helpfulness than ramming one solution down everyone's throats (especially if it's not the right solution for them), but there a few players in the market I feel sell people short and I do like to shout from the rooftoops that other alternatives may be better.

Then my work here is done When I joined the NewMedias (now Coding Futures) team 18 months ago they said they wanted to make YM the best membership product available again. We initially looked to WishList as the benchmark until we realised that for all the marketing power and user base size, it's not much of a plugin, our next target was DAP which was easily the best option at the time and only now do I feel we've finally caught them (and I'll let you judge if we've passed them or not).

I would usually recommend Wishlist Member and it's the solution that I use for my sites too. There are a lot more plugins on the market though and I must admit having to subscribe to Wishlist Insider to get additional plugins which could have been built into the core one is slightly annoying, especially as they are not even for sale outside of the membership so if you miss it then you've missed it until they fix that!

The thing to consider with video is how much you want to protect it. If it's accessible via a URL and you're using any of the common players (JWPlayer, FlowPlayer etc) then it's trivial to find the URL and share it with your buddies.

There are two common ways around it, either serve the video off the same server as your website and keep the video outside of the web root (which is how most protected download systems work) or use a secure hosting service (such as Amazon S3 or CloudFront) that allows your website to generate a time limited and/or IP limited URL that will only work from for a short length of time (and from the specified host).

Stuff like password protecting the folder using .htaccess or using traditional membership plugins generally isn't enough if you really want to stop one person purchasing and sharing the link with everyone else.

S2Member is an awesome membership plugin - especially if you are just getting started building your sites and getting up an running. The free plugin has just about everything you could want except affiliate management. I love it so far, When I need Affiliate management and a more complete solution, I would probably go with something like DAP unless PrimoThemes adds affiliate features (which I hope they will).

My 2 cents of course, YMMV.

Actually, you can password protect any page on wordpress without a plugin. All people who wish to view the page will need to use the same password.

You didn't say how complex a solution you needed - and this is likely the easiest quickie way.

(not saying it is the right solution for the OP - but a valid solution)

If all you want to do is password protect a few videos, I would recommend S2Member plugin or just writing simple php login scripts that you can learn how to make from free videos on youtube (if you don't know how to).

If you want something that gives you more control, wishlist products are user friendly but will cost you a small or large fee depending on your budget.

Try the S2Member plugin first as you have nothing to lose and it may be all you need/want

As you can see there are a lot of different opinions, a lot really depends upon your needs, if you dont need much as far as features, and over all power, go with wish list, and likely you will wish you had something else, I Wish I had a complete answer for you but I have personally used this and found that it did not meet my needs, it might work for you just fine, as it might work for a lot of people just fine, but if you are looking for raw horse power and flexibility, Amember is something to look into, there are a ton of other plugins, none of which really do a great job, there is a gap in this market, it would be great to say that there is a perfect product which meets every need, but sadly it does not yet exist.

I have found standalone scripts like amember are more powerful and more flexible, than other plugin type scripts, that is to date, I hope it changes in the near future, however,

In a word. No. Mainly because there are plenty of great affiliate systems out there that can plugin into virtually any WordPress site, both iDevAffiliate and zferal seem popular at the moment. We'd rather spend our time focused of making the best membership plugin we can rather than spending time reinventing the wheel.

S2 Member is a great free Membership plugin that allows for multiple levels as well as single buy now buttons. It rivals some of the premium plugins.

However, if for some reason down the line you want to flip those Membership sites and you did not purchase the developers license or whatever licenses they require you to purchase in order for you resell that site with the plugin intact, then you may not be able to sell it.

With a free plugin like S2 Member that is a non-issue. Just something to think about.

I have a couple of sites that use S2 Member and for the affiliate program I use WP Affiliate from the same people that make WP eMember & WP eStore.

S2 Members has loads of tutorials that will walk you through the integration of the affiliate software as well as drip feeding the content and loads more, but I'm getting off topic.

Like CDarklock said, what you are describing is is more of a protected post which requires zero plugin and no members area.

So if you really want a Membership site then I suggest the S2 Members + WP Affiliate plugins. If you are only wanting to do what you said in your original post then check out the link CDarklock posted Post*Visibility -- Support -- WordPress.com this is super-simple

Good luck with which ever one you choose.

    Hi Guys!

I wonder if anyone here is using MemberWing. It seems to be a great soft with many options and very easy to use which is something I put on top of my requests.
Who has the time now to "study" plugins?
I mean if a program is well thought and well designed from the beginning, it should be intuitive and able to be used straight away.

It seems DAP is great but quite techie compare to MemberWing where I read several times users praising its user-friendly side.
I just would like to know now if some users here are using it on their production site (not just tried it for 1 day or 2)

THANK YOU all for your feedback!
