Firefox, what is going on?

Is anybody else having loads of problems with the new firefox 5?

It keeps freezing up, shutting down then not opening the tabs & pages I had open!

I wouldn't mind if it was only every so often but its all the time.
I have used firefox for years & loved it but I cant stand it at the moment.

Is anybody else having as much trouble as I am?

Any recommendations for browsers other than IE that I can transfer my bookmarks over.

Yep! I gave up on Firefox outside of when I need to use some of their plugins.

I only use Google Chrome now, it's so much faster and better it's ridiculous.

I went over to Google chrome a while back and it appears to be ok so far. I find it to be a lot quicker than firefox.
    But each to their own.

Hi, I'm new here but I am experiencing the same as you. I have used FF for many years and the last 2 versions has been the worst. The problem is that I need it because of the SEO plugin and the Rank Checker plugin, but it is damn annoying.

I use Chrome now when I am not doing research and it really is great! The speed and performance is much better than FF and there are a number of cool plugins as well.

I've always avoided new versions as long as possible and I do that with many things online. Just because you want me to use the latest, greatest update doesn't mean I have to do it.

I don't allow auto updates on my computer and I decide when and if I want a new version of Firefox. That's saved me a lot of time over the years

Same with me. I only upgrade anything after it's been out long enough to be stable and have bugs fixed.

Back when we put in our own TCIP numbers I got an email from my service provider to change our numbers right away so we don't lose our dial up connection. I put it off of course and two days later got an email telling everyone to put them back the way they were or they won't have an internet connection.

I had to call them on that one asking how they expected their clients to get the email if they did what they were supposed to do right away. They didn't have an answer just said they had to wait for people to call in

Yer It's a shame, I thought I sorted the problem of it freezing up, I simply changed the theme and this worked for a while but then it just slowed down and kept crashing, I think the plugin container is a main problem.

        Don't forget who owns Chrome

If you don't want to have all your surfing habits monitored then don't use Chrome

I agree the latest FireFox has some problems so I am running an older version that has not given me problems 3.6

I am not to quick to make any new versions of anything part of my system to do work

          Hi Ed,

FF has been freezing up since v4. Then I updated it to v5. Still freezes up but much lesser than v4.

What I did was by minimizing the number of active plugins, add-ons and toolbars.

Having some stuff in AWS S3. The S3FOX plugin is just amazingly convenient.

About Big G monitoring our activities via Chrome, I'm having the same suspicion. I use Chrome only for web site quality check and news reading.

          Thanks for the reminder.

Google originally used that green PR bar to get information, but now they created their own browser to give them more information, I suspect they monitor where you click on pages and give them heat maps like the studies that have been done and more

Chrome can do so much more than that little green bar for monitoring

I've never had any real issues with IE over the years but I do use FF for the most part nowadays. I tried to go to FF v4 and it crapped everything up for me so I reverted back to FF v3.6 and everything works fine. Not even gonna attempt FF v5 till it's settled in for awhile.

Same here. FF v4 gave me problems, so I went right back to 3.6.

I'm still running 3.6 as well, for two main reasons. One is because some of the plugins I use still haven't been updated to v4, let alone 5. The other reason is because of a modification I did to one of its functions that I'm sure will be wiped out if I upgrade. I could modify it again, just don't want to have to bother with it.

That, and I never jump on new software or new upgrades. I let others work out the bugs first.

When Firefox commanded me to upgrade to 4.0...it actually TOLD me that a slew of plug-ins would NOT work i.e. Download Helper and others...

            FORGET THAT!!!

            I'll wait!

    Hi Colin,

When I upgraded to FF 5, I also experienced some problems which I was able to trace to a few scripts on my sites (in one case my script supplier fixed the problem and it works fine now) clearing the cache (only the cache) fixes the other problems if I experience them.

    Still my first choice :-)

Just switched to FF5 on one of my computers and so far no problems. Skipped FF4. FF5 seems to be much snappier. Like others though I've become addicted to Chrome's minimalist ui and of course it's speed. On the downside, Chrome crashes more than FF, is a memory hog and if you're a heavy user of bookmarks, Chrome is pretty pathetic for that. Biggest downside of FF5 is that v6 Roboform is incompatible. Wouldn't have taken the plunge yet if this were my only computer.
