How can we drive traffic to your FB Page?

Probably everyone over here has a facebook page so I was wondering how does everyone drive traffic to their fan page.

How many of you do without any investment?
How many of you invest to gather fans?

I'm learning that it's not quite as easy as it looks... I built one fanpage and recommended it to all my friends through FB and got 218 fans in a matter of days with no monetary investment whatsoever. Then I built another one and set up a FB ad campaign and quickly wasted almost 200 bucks on 124 fans. I'm sure there are ways of getting better CTR on FB but I just kind of threw something together. Lesson learned.
