Can WSOs actually make decent money?

by Dexx

Hey All,

I always see forum posts recommending that people "create a WSO" based on whatever they are talking about (some method, tool, etc.)

But when I look in the WSO forum, I see most the products priced from $7 - $27 and only a couple dozen thread views on each thread etc.

SO really how much money can / could be made by doing WSOs with the forum so saturated in offers, and such little views on threads (which means maybe a couple dozen sales on a product?)

Are WSOs just basically some extra spending money to make?

Cheers,

-Dexx

Dexx, there are WSOs that range from making $0 to $10,000+ and beyond. All depends on the demand for the offer, the sales copy, and your reputation as a Warrior.

    Long time no see Dexx.

WSOs can make a decent amount of money but it helps in more ways than just cash.

You can build a great reputation of quality products. You can also build a great reputation by posting on this forum as well.

You can build a list but also build a relationship with future jv partners as well as affiliates.

The relationships you make through this forum is far greater than the money you make on the WSO section. That is but one of the things that makes this forum the best.

Very true. A lot of IMers also use the WSO section to test offers before they invest more time/money, or to split test the copy on their sales pages before acquiring partners or launching to the masses.

Also, running free WSOs is a very economical way to build a targeted IM list in a heart beat.

I agree. I think the warrior forum has build up a following such that it has been able to gather some of the best marketing minds here. Why dont you give it a shot to see how it works for you? That is most important right?

Also a great way to get testimonials, find out what modifications you need to make to your product / sales copy (a lot of your customers will give you feedback and ask questions...listening to them and adapting your product/copy accordingly, if possible, can make quite a difference)

Tom's right...the money is barely the tip of the iceberg. The WSO section serves much more.

    Agree with all of you.

When I first came here, I did two WSO's that didn't fly off the handle that great. The first one, I didn'y make squat, the second one I didn't make a dime, and my third, well...We'll just say that me and my family had a very nice Christmas thanks to it

But all money aside, I learned a lot. I learned to create a quality product in demand. I learned how to write effective sales copy. I learned how to interact and build better relationships with people.

All in all, the Warrior Forum is a great place in itself. What most don't realize is that some of the best information that people would pay hundreds (or even thousands) for, is all here, right in front of you.

Take advantage of it, interact with other warriors, and create relationships, because you never know what could happen.

That's key. Most people learn by 'doing' something...and WSOs work great for learning how to deal with product delivery, customer support, and tons of stuff you don't think about until sales and customer emails are rolling in.

Much better to handle that on a smaller scale (with a couple emails) vs. launch something full blown and deal with 10, 20...100s of emails on an issue that you weren't aware of.

I've found Warrior customers to be a lot more understanding than someone who finds your offer via articles/PPC/etc.

My first WSO (free) built a list of thousands, my second WSO made many thousands (dollars) and shows no signs of slowing down. I have also met and will JV with many fine warriors here. I am very grateful both for the fantastic feedback that helped improve and refine my products as well as the equally great support of my warrior customer base.

I echo a lot of the sentiments above. Being a recent de-lurker, I've yet to offer a WSO but have availed of quite a few down through the years.

I see huge benefits especially in pre-launching products as WSOs:
        • The ability to gather testimonials is huge - these will go straight into your sales page, ideally with the permission of the testimonial provider.
        • Warriors are superb at giving feedback, especially if the product has issues. This is priceless. Catching & correcting before launch will save you $$$.
        • The ability to offer a product before building out a website (many WSOs click directly to clickbank etc) can be a great inspiration for you to stop procrastinating and build the best damn sales site you can for a product that you know will sell.
        • WSOs are great price testing tools. Notice how many WSOs offer price A for the first 10 buyers, price B for the next 10 etc. This is a great way to find the optimal offer price for your product. e.g. if it sold out at $47 but drew blanks at $57, you know what price you should offer it at
        • Relationships. Without partners, advisors & JVs, it's very difficult to make real money, especially in IM.
        • Reputation is also priceless. Have you noticed you many Warriors ask for marketer or product reviews, even for established names? Creating a high quality product and offering it to Warriors is *the* fastest way I can think of to establish your IM reputation.
        • And last but not least, revenue! A sale is a sale is a sale. Whether it's one or a hundred, get it wherever you can.

So this is a little thread drift, but...

I've seen a couple of people mention using the WSO section as a good pre launch testing ground.

Just curious, but do you see that as being within the spirit of the rules of the WSO forum?

        The Rules:

        2. A Warrior Special Offer Means The Price You Give Must Be Better Than The Price The Public At Large Can Get. (This is not a "buy my product" forum, it is a "Special Offer" forum)

          Interesting point Lance.

To be clear with my earlier points, I assumed that people would only sell a complete and finished product as a WSO, something that is ready for primetime, whether it has been widely marketed yet or not.

I also referred to the variable pricing of WSOs which seems to be more common these days. I think it is only fair for a marketer to learn lessons from a WSO whether that's on pricing, product feedback, errant sales pitch or any other feedback they get, as long, as you say, they obey the spirit and letter of the forum rules. I was not suggesting people create a WSO just to price test, but there are lessons to be learnt from every WSO, including on pricing, and as Internet Marketers we'd be fools to ignore them.

I personally don't have a problem if a marketer wanted to pre-release a product as an WSO to give forum members a quick start advantage over the general public, as long as the offer is better than the imminent public one and the WSO obeys the rules, as you correctly say.

Being a new de-lurker, I've yet to offer a WSO, but my observations were based on what I see in the WSOs every day.

I'm enjoying the discussion! Long live WSOs.

From what I've seen, very decent money.

But as I read from the posts, it's even better for building a solid foundation in terms of contacts and your reputation. And better still, you will learn a lot of things, like learning through action.

Even if you don't make any money (which I doubt might happen) you still have an entire chest of knowledge that you can't just pick up from an e-book or whatsoever.

    Just my 2 cents.

I've been using WSO's over the past few years to test sales copy while also giving fellow Warriors some of my products at a significant discount. It's a win-win.

Beyond just the compensation though, you need to look at the quality of the customers you gain.

Through the insights, advice and guidance of the customers I've been fortunate enough to gain through WSOs, I have revised/rewritten entire products so I could charge MORE for it to the general public.

Additionally I've developed an army of affiliates that will march to the ends of the earth to promote my products.

So yeah, you can make $$$ through WSOs... but there's also a whole lot of intangibles.

    -Cam

PS - I don't know about anyone else, but my WSO's always performed way better on the "old" Warrior Forum than they do now. Perhaps it's just the quantity of offers currently available... I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts.
