PDF Traffic Techniques

Just thought I'd drop some gold here for anyone who is struggling to get traffic, PDF's are legen... wait for it.. dary when it comes to traffic generation.

Simple keyword research and a quality article (spun or fresh content) will rank quite highly and quickly on Google, some times within a few hours. Use the below to get yourself started on generating targeting traffic for your websites.

Step 1:
Open word 2007/10, add your title in large font.
Step 2:
Add a nice relative image
Step 3:
Add at least 300 words of content to the document
Step 4:
Add your link to the document to your website, make it large obvious font or even add it to the footer so it occurs on every page.
Step 5:
Save document as. PDF.
Step 6:
Upload to Scribd.com DocStoc.com Slideshare.net
Step 7:
When uploading be sure to add keyword you are targeting to the title or at least in the description this will help rank it well. Add correct tags and to the right category.

There are others but I find that these have proven themselves to be the most effective. I hope this helps you out!

DocStoc links within the document are un-clickable (it's been that way for a while now) unless the visitor downloads the document. As for Scribd, they are known to delete docs and/or accounts at any whiff of promotion.

Have you had any good experiences with these document sharing sites? What kind of CTR or conversions do you see?

Thanks for sharing this tip. As Margaret says, sometimes the links can be nulled/hidden, but PDF marketing is a useful tool nonetheless. It also helps to put some content up as PDF on your website

Regardless of the links being unclickable on Docstoc, there is definitely tonnes of traffic available. I can get 10k+ document views quite regularly, and by showing a URL to the user which is short and trustworthy I can guarantee they will type it in above to go to it.

Scribd? Really.. I have hundreds of promotional documents..never ever had one deleted. I call BS on this.

CTR is great and with my experience I have made thousands using them. If I am trying to get traffic to one of my sites, I usually go for PDF's first.

I agree, I would never encourage this, just leads to junk traffic, produce a quality document and you will find yourself with quality traffic(and a lot of it)

Thanks nice tactic, I tend to use shortened urls as links within my PDFS, some PDF writers tend not to allow you to link a URL behind the 'click here' keyword I find.

What I have found is that rankings of our documents submitted to pdf sites may last only a little while. Soon they are gone. I have not tried building serious backlinks to these pages in order to keep the rankings still, maybe its worth a try.

In my experience they tend to rank straight away or not at all. If they rank straight out, it is generally an easier keyword. It will rank in a few hours though, with only a few minutes work.

Try different keywords, there is no point going for holy grail keywords with a PDF, need to aim lower, plenty of traffic still to be had.

Thanks for the tip. I shall try it out with low competition keywords and check the results.
