Techie Warrior Nerds, I Need Help :)
How do you go about having a non-existent post or page on your site redirect to a 404 error page instead of the home page. For example, if someone types in a URL to your site that doesn't exist.
Right now if you go to my site and type in a random url that doesn't exist, then the site redirects to the homepage. However, I think that's causing Google to think a bunch of non-existent links/urls point to my homepage because I'm seeing weird crawl errors in google webmaster tools as well as some url's for my sites showing up in Google's index that shouldn't even be actual URL's.
I just recently took a huge hit in the rankings, and I'm not sure if this is why or not, but I'd like to get it fixed either way.
Thanks to anyone who can help.
Derek
