Wordpress Plugin Developers! Is It Hard To Get Reliable Developers?

I have been looking for a wordpress developer that can create a wordpress plugin for me.. Im having trouble finding someone that is dependable a lot say they can do it, start the project then get stuck with something and disappear and suddenly become uncontactable!

I have tried using ODESK but have not had much luck! Can anyone offer advice on where to find a good developer for wordpress, i need to get this project underway asap!

Any outsourcing advice in this area would be appreciated!

    Learn to do it yourself or get one of your staff to learn how to do it. This way you won't have that problem agains.

      I cant really put my staff through the training required at thispoint in time, it is to much to learn everything in the timeline i have!

      Do you advise me to pay on a hourly rate then? i was trying to get a fixed cost before! as i thought there would be more incentive for them to get the job done in a faster time frame?

        We pay our lead WordPress developer around $20 an hour, he is from Serbia. We pay our junior developers between $8 and $10 an hour.

    oDesk can be hit and miss, we have some good developers for plug ins , however it has taken a while to build our team up. You have to be prepared to pay a reasonable hourly rate to your developers to get really good ones.

    During my years with WP I have seen a two-fold issue when it comes to outsourced plugin creation:

    1. The "buyer" (i.e. the person who orders the creation of the script) cannot communicate clearly what the plugin should do or have unrealistic expectations from a plugin... because they don't really understand how WP works. That's one side.

    2. The "coder" has only a minimal experience with PHP and thinks he is good enough to make a simple plugin since there is ample documentation for it. However, when it comes to more complicated issues AND, especially, avoiding vulnerabilities and unnecessary multiple queries to the database etc. - they just throw in the proverbial towel because they are not as good as they thought they were.
    Plus, quite often they are afraid(?) to tell the client if the desired functionality is not doable in the WP framework... which ends up with frustration on both sides.

      Hey Istvan, Yeah I Think you are right, my documentation is very clear! i know exactly what needs to be done and i also know it is possible! Its just finding someone that can do the Job Proficiently!

      Im going to look into paying a hourly wage and see how that pans out! Thanks for the estimates FASTWEB!! they wil come in handy!

    I've got a really good plugin developer that has done several project for me... He's very dependable and give great support after it's finished.

    If you want, send me a IM and I'll pass your requirements to him for a quote. I typically have him quote the whole job and not an hourly fee. You'll get a better price that way.
