WP - stop the comments and replies problem

I want to remove the ability for people to post comments/replies on my wp blog. I did a Search here to find out how, and downloaded the plugin to hide comments and then activated it. I thought it was supposed to eliminate a person's ability to leave a comment but it hasnt. I did close my browser and re-open it, that didnt help.

Can anyone help me with this? I am getting spammed robot comments far too often.

    Did you try this?

    Go to your admin panel.

    Under "Settings", then "Discussion"

    Check the box that says "An Administrator must always approve the comment."

    Then don't approve anything, just delete whatever shows up. Easy

    You don't need a plug-in. In your Wordpress dashboard go to settings/discussion. Remove the tick beside "Allow people to post comments on new articles "

    If you have existing articles/posts you will have to edit them individually. Go to the editing area of a post or page (click on edit below the page name in the list of pages). Click on "Screen Options" at the top of the screen and put a tick beside "discussion" in the drop down list.

    This should add the option below the main content of your page to "allow comments". Remove the tick beside this and re-save the page.

      Steve I did that the other day and it didnt work. Rosetrees I did that too!

      I will try your idea and see if that will work. It should not be such a big deal to stop comments.

        That should have worked for all NEW posts. I think you have to set old posts individually.
        For pages use the no comments on pages plugin

        The better way to do all these tasks is to edit your theme and remove the php commands that adds comments, but it can be tricky the first few times yiu use the theme editor.

          Finally got it sorted out! Rosetrees had the solution. I clicked for the Screen Options, checked Discussion, then unchecked Discussion and did an Update. I had to do that on each of my 9 pages. Now those Russian spammers cant reach me anymore

    If you go inside the editor of your themes menu. Scroll down to pages.php and look for a line of code like this <?php comments_template(); ?>. From there you just remove it and you'll be able to get rid of comments on all pages. Disabling them in discussions only does for post I believe.
