Facebook social networking

Hi, I would like to build a network on Facebook and Twitter, but I have no idea on how to go about. I have just recently started exploring the world of social networking.

Any tips on how to "get friends"? It's so lonely out there...

Funny you should ask as I just joined FaceBook tonight... never did it before... and added a bunch of friends in minutes.

Just play around on the site and you'll figure it out.

P.S. -- Search for my name and you'll get another friend.

Hello Bryan, fellow Hypnotist. As for facebook use the email contact list invite application and then from there you will keep finding more and more people who you know. Also join groups with people with common interests and you can add friends that way.

      Good luck!

As with all social networks, go and add others as friends first. Most people will reciprocate.

when you get a friend on facebook, if that person has friends you'll get an opportunity to invite THOSE friends.

    so it's like a 'You're a friend of a friend' kinda thing.

    Here's what I do:

when I see facebook 'suggest' a friend to me I click on it and enter this phrase into the 'add this person a message'

Hi, Facebook seems to think we have something in common, I do Local Google Advertising in Maryland, what do you do?

    =========

More often than not, if the person needs or think they might need a heavywieght SEO guy in their corner they IM me back.
sometimes it's a forecloser guy or a real estate agent who isn't really interested in MY services, but they do look at my profile
(which has some pretty interesting proof of my worthiness I must add...)

    I'm getting work from it
    paying work
    and I like it

      Hello Omari Taylor here,

Great advice. And also great advice in you other post. Ditch people who try to sale you and keep friends who work with you.

That also a great message to send someone. You were very polite and you are really trying to get to know that person. You're not trying to sale them something. Great Stuff!!!

    Anna,

Willie Crawford did an interview on his BlogTalkRadio show with Mari Smith, a Facebook/Twitter marketing expert. You might find it interesting and useful; I know I did.

      Thanks for the link Mike.

I'm new to social networking too and have only done FB so far. I'm not familiar with other social networks, but FB is pretty up close and personal.

Right now, my network consists mostly of family and old college classmates. So the stuff on my FB page is personal, not professional. I want to join LinkedIn and use that as my professional network but am not ready to do that yet.

Has anybody else used one network for personal stuff and one for professional stuff? My FB page has stuff on there from friends and family that I don't necessarily want business associates to see. Not that I'm hiding anything, but just that it's not all very professional.

For example, a former college classmate just lost his wife and children in a car wreck two weeks ago today. Comments, videos, photos, links to news articles, etc. are flying back and forth between all of the alumni. My comments and others' comments on our pages also relate to my faith. Then there are the posts about my best friend's new boyfriend, etc.

Stuff like that. Nothing to hide, but again, not necessarily professional. So I'd like to keep FB for personal stuff and use LinkedIn for professional networking.

What do you all think? Has anyone done something like this?

One thing I learned from somebody... ignore the 'applications'
          concentrate on friends
ditch friends that hard sell you
keep ones that work with you

I'm figuring it out as I go along myself

          and networks are area specific
          I had two choices:
          Baltimore
          Washington DC

          both have remarkably different folllowings

    I "friended you too!"

I've been on facebook for awhile. I spent a ton of time "Friend Pilfering." When someone adds me I immediately look at their list of friends and "pick up" as many as I can...

Also, I always check and add from the "People You May Know Section."

I really great way to get involved is with 'Groups.' You can search the groups for people that have similar interests as you or are in your "Niche." Join the group and contact the administrator. If you become friends with a group administrator then you will pick-up a ton of friends by default.

Also...and I know this is running long. Comment on other people's stauses, posted items, videos, etc. I have made friends with people just because they make funny or interesting comments.

    Anyway, welcome to facebook!

I do not have as much luck getting friends on Facebook but I use Twitter more and I have over a 1000 followers. I believe it is because I make comments and answer questions on it.

Yes, just post a hot picture of yourself in your avatar and make a post about how lonely you are. That should do the trick :p

Other posts have been brilliant, and here a few general tips...You should always check and add from the people you may know part, as this is the quickest and easiest ways to make a large number of friends. A top way to get involved with other like minded people is with groups - as you can search within those specific groups for people that like minded interests as you. Request to join up with a group and contact the administrator. If you become friends with a head honcho administrator, your friends will increase dramatically. The more comments you make on others photos, videos, and posts the more exposure your have! Hope this helps!
