Hey Warriors, I would like some advice on .info domains. I am just wanting to test out a new blog, new market and I dont want to spend 10 bucks on a .com domain to see if I want to pursue the market. Will a .info domain hinder my testing when I try to rank in google? or are there any other reasons I shouldnt use a .info domain? just for testing though..if I find out its a good market then I will buy the .com domain. Thanks

.info domains rank SAME way like .com domains. (as per Google blog) So you can use .info to test.

If you want to test, why not use a free Blogger blog? No domain hassles and it's quick and easy to setup and get going.

While Google says that they don't judge .info's I've seen a lot more squirrelly stuff go on around new .info domains so far as ranking goes. It's also more difficult to get links and so forth because many others view them as spammy.

Not intended to confuse you .... That is why I quoted Google opinion. Not my opinion or my experience.

(I couldn't find that post now in google blog)

I've always heard to just go with .com and basically ignore net org and info. So that's what I do, but I'm not an expert.

.info's get ranked. But if all SEO aspects are equal, then .com's will dominate the .info's.

If you can grab them for a buck or two, and your blog is for testing, then it's worth it. If you're paying nearly as much for it as a .com, then buy the .com.

Hi, if you genuinely want to spend time and rank the site, go for .com. They rank much better than .info. .infos have been used by a lot of spammers and there is a certain "cloud" they carry when Google evaluates them. But if you are only testing a niche, go for free blogs like Blogger.com

they might rank the same, but for me ".info" is equivalent to SPAMMY, LOW QULAITY, someone who doesnt even want to spend $9 for a real domain, getting a $2 info domain instead to save $7 bucks.
Which also leads to the conclusion that the site itself USUALLY is garbage.
