Ranking geograpahic keywords in directory site
I am working on building a business directory site for a specific niche. I will be using the DirectoryPress theme for wordpress and putting in all the USA states and cities as my categories. I'll also be listing Canadian provinces as cities as well. I'll then go and add several businesses in my niche for each category to get some content on the site. I expect my main source of revenue will be adsense since my niche pays well for adsense clicks and after I get traffic i'll approach businesses for premium listings.
So my question is how would I go about ranking for geographic specific keywords? for example "my niche Chicago", "Chicago my niche", "my niche Wisconsin" etc. Will I need to publish articles etc for each specific region to get these rankings? Or can I just rank my main keywords with general articles about my niche and then the geographic specific keywords will just fall into place?
