What is the best thing to do with not-yet-setup domains?

Hi, I am starting out with setting up some websites and have 7 domain names -
  • 3 in online marketing aimed at beginners (like me)
  • 3 in Addiction - which I already know about
  • 1 in diet/weightloss - which I already know about

Obviously it's going to take me a while to get them all up and running while I learn what I'm doing with websites and marketing.

My question is:

  • What is the best way to maximise future search engine attention/traffic with these yet-to-used Domains?

In particular I would like to know, am I disadvantaging the future of these undeveloped sites if I put a single page up with an Adsense link now?

I do want to choose what is best for the long term traffic benefit -
  • a short term (probably small) cash return and/but early exposure to google crawlers etc,
  • or, keeping them out of the reach of google crawlers until I can set them up properly?

Thanks in advance - there is so much to learn and I'm so glad I found you!

Hi the best way to start is not to purchase domains first, but instead do your keyword research first. Learn keyword research first because keyword research can tell you if the competition is high or low. And then thereafter everything will start to fall in place. Hope this helps God bless!

I came in here to post this. Your keyword research directly correlates to the domain name that you will purchase. You want an exact match domain name when you are just starting out, they are the easiest to rank.

I personally don't recommend beginners to try and make an authority site right off the bat. Cut your teeth on niche sites with EMD (exact match domains) which will be far easier to rank and give you confidence while you learn the ropes.

If our assumptions are wrong and you DID do your keyword research first, then my recommendation is get them up as quickly as possible. If it is a niche site and you are only planning 5-10 articles on each one... I would start by outsourcing those articles/writing them yourself. Since you'll be drip feeding the articles in once every one or two days. Get the first articles up on all of them to get the process going and then you have 2 days to get your next round of articles written and posted. It is important to get the first article up on each one as soon as possible because the longer you wait to do that, the later your drip feeding will start, which means the later you'll have a fully functioning site, which means opportunity lost in terms of income.

      I hope this helped.

Yes, pick one thing, focus on that until you make it work and are successful at it.......try not to get distracted with shiny objects along the way. Then and only then move on to the next thing.

Domains are fairly cheap so no big loss if you have to sit on them for a while, sell them, or even let them expire. Your wins should more than make up for any losses.

You could purchase some PLR related to your niches, rewrite it and post it to a Wordpress blog and let them sit until you're ready to develop them more. That's what I normally do.

Some people will say just buy one domain, target a niche and focus...focus....focus.

I tend to disagree with that, at least it's not what I do. I try to project forward 6 months and grab a few different properties/domains. Then just install WP and setup the basics like 'about' 'contact' 'privacy'. Then add a couple specific pages and a couple posts, fire a few backlinks, write 2 or 3 articles, then let them sit and drop back on whatever the main focus of the day is.
Then I'll revisit them every once in a while and just take a looksee at what's going on.
I might have 10 or so of these 'incubator' projects going at any one time. So I take a look at the traffic stats and see which one is worthy of more attention, then drop on that.

Some people say focus, when what they really mean is diversify.

      This times 1,000,000.

The important thing to realize about IM is that no matter how good you are, you are going to have some sites that are more successful than you could ever imagine and you will have some sites that you thought was a sure thing but it flopped. I would rather be creating 10-20 sites a month constantly because it can take sometimes 3-6 months to see if a specific site is going to be successful.

In my early days, I had the one website approach and it is EXTREMELY discouraging when you realize that you've put 3-6 months into a site to then realize that your keyword research wasn't correct or that the market you're targeting just doesn't convert. A market not converting is something you can't usually predict until you have your own data. For instance, I have a MMA (mixed martial arts) tube site that gets tens of thousands of visitors a month but it barely makes any money because tube visitors are not product buyers (at least in the MMA niche). I have tried every type of offer and various avenues for profit but it just doesn't convert. I only make $30 adsense per month on it and I have sold a few links on the front page as well. If I had that kind of traffic in the MMO (make money online) niche I am sure I would be making much more than $30 per month.

Anyways, I digress. I guess the moral of the story is don't put all of your eggs in one basket when trying to make it online. There will be a lot of failures on your path to success and the sooner you can get those failures out of the way the sooner you'll find success.

Thank you friends for you advice. It really is very useful. I did do quite a lot of keyword research for all the domain names. From where I'm at at the moment I can't tell how well that will work but I will find that out as I go - at least some good high traffic low competition keywords in the domain name, no hyphens and all of them .com.

I have a lot already written on addiction which can be used now and spread across the 3 addiction type domains and I think linking them would be a traffic generating tactic although I still have to do more research on that.

I can already see that I have to initially focus mainly on one site which will be my first one, to get wp understood properly, and get practical experience of the mechanics of setting up a real site.

My real dilemma is whether it's worth putting up the others as bare bones sites now, with an Adsense link in them to see what happens, but before I have any drippable content written for them. - or should I wait until I can launch them individually with more individualised focus and a proper 'launch strategy'?

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Please do not put up a site with Adsense and no other content. I say this from the perspective of a visitor to your site.

I think Lime Cellular is the best white label SMS marketing platform.

You can park it with a site like Sedo.com and do some link building if you have your keywords. May give you some adsense revenue. Getting some back links may make it more valuable.
