HTML Template without CSS

I recently commissioned a mini-site from another warrior, came with template so I expected it to also have CSS file, unfortunately not. The quality of the graphics & mini-site is fantastic, unfortunately unless I get a CSS file for it I can't use it, or can I?.

Coding is not my strong point, has anyone had an issue like this, when I've ordered templates/ mini-sites in the past they always came with CSS file. Is it possible to get someone else to do the css for the template, any pointers would be helpful

    ---cut---
    If you click the index.html or whatever page starts the site and it works, it means you can use it without CSS and most probably the styles are coded in the html file itself.

    To find out, you just open the file with a text editor, and if you see lots of

    {
    some text here;
    another text;
    another text:
    }

    the styles are coded in the html file.

    Otherwise, the path to the CSS file will be stated at the beginning of the indes.html or whatever the starting page is.

    Yes as Robert says, the styling information for the HTML doesn't have to be a seperate file.
    It can be:
    1 - in a seperate file somename.css (normaly style.css) and linked to from the HTML page.
    2 - In the head of the HTML page between the <head></head> tags. You would see it within style tags ie.

    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Your Title</title>
    some other tags
    <style>
    h1 {
    font-family: sans-serif;
    color: #eeeeee;
    }
    </style>
    </head>
    <body>
    3 - It can be within the HTML tags ie.
    <h1 style=" font-family: sans-serif; font-color: #eeeeee;">

    Although it is standard practice now to use an external file for the style, if the site is small, just 1 or 2 pages without much need for styling, it can make sense just to use no. 2 above so there is no need for the browser to call the external file and so makes the page load fractionaly quicker.

    Obviously if the styling information isn't there you must contact the designer as they must have forgotten to include it - no designer would produce a site without styling information in one form or another.

    Regards
    Rob

    Does elements have atributes like "ID" or "CLASS" (HTML)?

    That is a clear sign that CSS was used.

    Hi,

    CSS is something that came about a decade ago or slightly longer. CSS appeared a few years after JavaScript.

    Before CSS, there were lots of wonderfully designed sites already present. The design elements are hard-coded into the HTML tags. Hard work but works pretty well because it is universally compatible with all browsers.

    You'll still find a lot of web sites without CSS, including mine ... lol.

    In your case, probably the designer hard-coded it, old-school style.

    And if you really like the design but you can't convert the design to CSS styles on your own, then you have to get the help of another Webmaster.

    I bet Robnoble could do it.

    I have hard-coded sites like that for years, old-school style.

    I just started learning some elements of css about a year ago, and I extended my css knowledge to a huge extent a couple months ago.

    I finally feel comfortable doing css, but I still hard-code a lot of stuff.

    Thanks everybody for the replies. The designer got back to me, apparently he forgot to add styling. As many of you say no css required. Code sorted now and template works as it should.

    thanks again
