Hey guys I just picked up some really good .xxx domains. Do you think they are worth anything? or possible to be ranked in google?

I'm checking online but seems like there are alot of things up in the air on the subject.

These extensions are for adult oriented sites (porn). That should tell you if they're worth it or not.

Well I have some good ones for that industry, I am thinking they can do very well.

And as far as I know adult sites do quite well in sales

That depends. Are the domain names in the adult niche? Are they one word domain names? Does the keyword in the domain have a relevant meaning in the adult industry?

If it is like laptops.xxx, i don't think so. Maybe in the future it might have some seo benefits, but I would think twice before clicking on a website about laptops with a .xxx extension

If it is relevant to the adult industry, yes they can be worth something. Especially if you develop websites around them.

Those are both great domain names - even if you're not in the adult niche, just sit on them for a while. The jury is still out on the future of the xxx domains. There is some theory that the adult industry will shun them and try to devalue them. Your domain registration is a perfect example of why. MyFreeWebCams.com is one of the largest adult webcam sites and owned by a monster company. They've spent years and god knows how many tens of thousands of dollars promoting their domain - now a guy like you comes along and for $99 you grab the xxx version of their domain. This is happening all over the place with the xxx domains. The adult industry (owners of the adult .com domains) weren't given first shot or any preferential treatment for preregistering xxx domains, so brands that they've spent years building are being snapped up by any Tom, Dick or Harry. Standardization of all adult content on the xxx top level domain is the last thing they want, so time will tell whether you've got gold nuggets or coal.

well in that case even if they take am away the registrars will have to refund those who purchased the .xxx domains.

If that's the case get a squeeze page or some adult-related products up there on a splash page as quick as you can you might get a few thousand visitors just from their regular customers seeing if a .xxx version is available yet since .xxx is now in the news.

There's a huge difference between gay.[any extension] and
myfreewebcams with four keywords in domain

You might be able to sell them to the right buyer, but don't expect the kind of income that gay.com or gay.xxx would pull in.

Oh I was just stating the fact about gay, I dont expect that income..... but my free web cams is one of the biggest cam companies out there hehe.

I think that big sites will just use these new URLs to redirect to the websites true domain.

I had no idea .xxx existed. They could be worth something eventually. Obviously, there's money if what you say about the half million is true. Someone has big plans. Ride them coat tails son.

I may buy a few of these domains just for the sake of possibly flipping one day.

XXX will probably be valuable, as long as they are attached to the right domain. Remember, while a domain name is great (and can sell for a lot of money) it usually comes down to content, traffic, and overall revenue. In that regard, even a .info site can do well with proper work and optimization (though SEO doesn't mean quite as much for an adult site).

It seems like there might be some issues though applying SEO techniques to the .xxx domains.

Are there any of the .xxx domain owners are facing the same problem as me that your .xxx domain was bought during the pre-register period but is still pending application right now?

I have posted in this thread in the godaddy forum - Domain Management and Services | Forum | What’s up with the .xxx domains? | Community Library

and as well as a discussion in the other general thread here - http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...plication.html

Let's look at it that way. You said you just registered .xxx domain where same .com domain name is registered with one of the biggest companies? How .xxx domains any different from .org, .net or .info? Don't you think all those people that decided to copy all those large companies going to be burnt at the end, because all what the company have to do is just file a complaint and have .xxx domain handed to them?
I look at it as trying to sell apple.net to apple.com .

This is exactly what I was thinking. For developing a website they are practically worthless. The .xxx domains are in no way exempt from the law and must honor other peoples trade marks.

All these new extensions are practically worthless...one big scam IMO that is designed around hype and tricking people that there is some sort of difference from the last failed extensions like .mobi .tv .us or all the other worthless extensions...

I agree with your reference to .mobi, .tv and .us - but you are in a completely different world when it comes to porn. Look at this entire forum, there is hardly ever a post about porn - when there is one, everybody jumps all over it like it's the plague. The topic is avoided, taboo... But the money made in the porn industry dwarfs every money making opportunity ever discussed on this site. Why would a adult affiliate network offer a $60 payout on a $1 trial signup? Because they want to lose $59 a sale? Not hardly. Try to find a click bank product to match that.

What's my point, to talk about how great porn is? No, my point is to convey how huge the industry is. And even though it's the white elephant in the corner as far as this forum is concerned, it will continue to be a huge industry with its own set of rules that most people in this forum will never care about or understand.

All that being said, imagine SOPA passes and the government announces it is going to shut down all adult sites that aren't on the XXX domain because it will make it easier for ISPs to offer filters which will protect the children. I wish I was sitting on MyFreeWebCams.xxx the day that press release comes out.

Sopa is about stopping online piracy...I thought this would be a blessing for the porn industry because they get hit by this the most?

As for ISPs filters they are mainly based on the same technology that spam filters are based on: DNS and IP filtering... I don't think the type of TLD matters at all.

I think the whole point with those extensions that they will try to break the internet down into groups. Adult sites - .xxx, SEO companies - .seo, Shopping - .buy or some thing like that. In my opinion it will be worthless.

None of the big porn companies will want to move from their multi million $$$ .com extension that is highly indexed and back-linked and advertised. There is no benefit from moving from .com to .xxx or even defensive registering, being that they already own the trade mark. In fact, no company will want to move from their highly developed and visited .com Its like a 5th avenue shop moving location to a distant city suburb just because its "new".

And at $99/year registration the new .xxx extension sounds like a good lesson in marketing worthless stuff to the uninformed.

I think it's more about the domain keepers making bucks. With so many dot coms and nets and orgs and infos gone, they create new extensions so everyone will rush to get them. Not me. I've got enough domains.
