Social Media Promotion Question

Hey Warriors,

Today I was reading through Google's "search-engine-optimization-starter-guide.pdf"

Good little document about the basics for those of you that don't know of it. You can find it by searching in the Google Webmaster site.

The Social Media section of the guide says:

Avoid: attempting to promote each new, small piece of content you create; go for big, interesting items

I was under the impression each blog post should be socially shared even it is a shorter post and not a long article. So is this true or does Google penalize your site for socially sharing smaller less interesting blog posts and such?

And how would Google decide if a blog post was less interesting? Remember the spiders look for key phrases etc. to determine what the content is about. They are not actually "reading" articles and "thinking" about if they are interesting or not. That is why senseless spun articles that are keyword rich are sometimes ranked high on the internet.

I have bookmarked hundreds of pages with no problems. And though I hate to admit, not everything I have to say is big and interesting

It's always good to post something that is interesting

But as others have mentioned, how would Google know if a blog is less interesting? My advice is to just wing it. Write good blog posts, write boring blog posts and promote. Let your visitors decide if your content is worth their time.
