What "like" buttons should I put on my site's pages?

I'm not using a CMS or blog platform so I'm curious as to what "like" buttons I should use on my site and is there a preference as to which ones tend to to better than others?

Thanks very much, and have a good day,

- Paul

    The standard must-haves would be:

    1) Facebook Like
    2) Tweet This
    3) Google Plus 1

I also like the Facebook Share button. It seems like it's redundant, but it actually allows people to put in their own comment.

BTW, I personally think Twitter is a big waste of time, but I include it "just because." I focus mostly on Facebook and think its the most effective way to "viralize" your content.

Just my 2 cents: I don't think Twitter is a waste of time. I get about 30% of my traffic from twitter... If you use it right, you get lots of people from twitter. The key is to interact with your followers often.

It's probably just me. You're right, it's a matter of how you use it.

I have a Twitter account with over 4000 followers and am sure I get some traffic from it, but I have no idea how anyone actually communicates with anyone with the feed going by so fast. I'm just not too keen on sitting there and watching the feed go by.

Facebook is more my speed and I get tons more traffic from there.

I guess I manage most of my twittering by just checking the emails I get from twitter. I get notification any time someone replies, mentions, or follows me, so then I go to those people and talk to them using their @username.

Twitter is definitely overwhelming and takes a lot of time though to keep up with!

Maybe you can give me some tips on how to get more traffic from facebook because I barely get anyone from there! lol

Maybe if I interacted with people more on facebook. I don't know... what do you think?

Are these buttons something that those sites generate the code for? I'm using hand-coded pages so I don't think a plug-in will work.

Thanks a lot for the great responses.

    Have a good one, all

Facebook and Twitter both offer the raw code to place buttons on you site without the use of a plugin. Just go their respective developer pages and grab the button code.

The "Share This" buttons seem to overlap the ones mentioned. Is it wrong to use both?

facebook Likes are great for popularity (which goes a long way in business) Offer an incentive for people if they "Like" your facebook page.

I recommend to use AddThis - Share Button, Social Bookmark, Sharing Plugins and Analytics

As you can cover pretty much any kind of bookmarking your customer may have, including the biggest ones Facebook,Twitter, Stumbleupon etc etc...

Both addthis and sharethis would be good choices if you are trying to allow your viewers to share your site.
