Web programming question

I thought we had a programming forum. I couldn't find it so I hope this is the right place to post this question on web programming.

I know that certain ads display Portland Oregon when I load the page, so obviously they detect my location (just outside Portland Oregon). Can anyone tell me how that is done so I can modify my article and title to jive with their physical location?

If this is real complicated then it is probably over my head, but I would like to be able to do it if possible. Can anyone help?

    There is, it's located here

    To answer your question it is based on your IP address which can be looked up and the location found.

    There are real easy methods available to plug this into your pages so you can target your customers better. I've used a few methods before but right now I don't have an example to give you.

    I'd recommend doing a Google search for this that's what I'd do ;-)
