I would like to bring traffic to my local business. Currently Google Places is working alright for me. I have a listing on Yellowpages with a few reviews, do you guys recommend I pay the monthly fee and become an advertiser?

Priority placement over Gold Listings.

Wow, that's not cheap. I guess it depends if people still use Yellow Pages! I personally don't and I believe most people don't, but you'll have to find out if people in your area do!

I'm sure that money invested in IM for your local business would do better. There are other ways to do IM for your local business besides Google Places.

I'd rather use the money for solo ads, adwords etc
You can also game the system a little and name your company in the yellow pages with a name staring with A. That way you will appear at the top of the listings

I can tell you in all honesty and from direct experience having worked for them that yellowpages is a total ripoff. Why dont you use somethin like adwords or sign up for banner ads on niche sites similar to your own?

I think the people that say NO to using the Yellow Pages are really just advertising their own limitations/biases/etc. as that is just not true. Now that may be true in the foreseeable future, but certainly not now.

And it will depend on the niche as to how effective YP ads are. Some businesses just can't do away with their YP ads as it brings them exposure and business.

I seem to recall that the Offline Forum has had information on this in the past, so you might do a search there to get better information.

Yellow pages are free and all over, but I wouldn't bother open it, i probably would through it away. If i am looking for a number, i rather check google places

i don't think it worth the money
