Be Careful About Using Whitelist Feature on ClickBank

Hey Warriors!

I just mistakenly went Honey Badger on another marketer because of the whitelist feature so I want to warn you about something.

Background - the whitelist feature lets you, as a vendor, approve who gets to promote your product. It's a certain amount of exclusivity. Or, you can make it open to all affiliates.

Anyway, I had been contacted by another marketer awhile back to do a review of his product, which I did by implementing it and covering it in dozens of blog posts, sharing my results.

So I'm making affiliate commission on the sales of it.

Today, months later, I get an email from ClickBank that says verbatim:

*This email is to inform you that your account 'affiliatenameremoved' has been removed from the Affiliate Whitelist of the ClickBank vendor 'vendornameremoved'.

Now that you have been removed from this vendor's Affiliate Whitelist, you are no longer
eligible to earn commissions by promoting their product(s).*

So I was PISSED off about this!

Well I went off, of course. Then a ClickBank employee sees a post by me about it and lets me know the vendor just disabled the whitelist feature completely - so my affiliate link IS indeed working. He simply opened it up to all affiliates.

Well this is screwed up. The wording specifies that I was removed and that I am NO LONGER ELIGIBLE for commission! Apparently that's not true!

So my advice is to notify your whitelist partners BEFORE you disable the feature if you decide to open it to everyone - because I went through my whole site and removed my links to him and now I have to put them back.

Tiff

Thanks for the warning. I have never used the whitelist feature, but I wonder if they have to shut down everything before they can open it up to all affiliates, and that's why you got that email. If so, clickbank should definitely change that.

That was pretty stupid. You would think that they would know better. Look at all the work they csused you. Hope it is worthwhile for you to spend all that time taking links out and putting them back.

That really is screwed up! Are they going to have the sense to change that, or should we start asking them/reminding them (happy to, if it will help - they sometimes need to hear stuff multiple times, from multiple people, before they realize they screwed up).

    Thanks for highlighting this, Tiff.

You're welcome. I did tell the CB associate that that has to be cleared up and should be part of the notification process.

    Especially with me. LOL!

I tend to immediately take action - so I fired off an angry email G+'d it, tweeted it, and blogged it and removed all my links and replaced it with a rude update in the span of half an hour.

lol. It's the Honey Badger in me.

Good advice. Sounds like a simple oversite on clickbanks behalf. Maybe they'll fix it now.

Clickbank has improved vastly over the last couple of years...guess they still have some small issues to address but overall they are the best and I will continue to use them. Whenever I have a concern I fire off an email and a rep always responds within a few hours.

I guess, like the honey badger, you fought and killed a poisonous snaked but not before getting bitten and it knocked you out.

Then, you woke up again and continued on with your honey badger ways.

I'm glad I saw this...for some weird reason today I'm getting a ton of e-mails saying I was added to the white list, and also being removed from the white list.
Wonder what's really going on behind all of those.

Might be a good idea to keep this in mind for future incidents. A simple email asking the seller why this happened would have saved you a lot of work and embarassment. Sometimes it's better to count to 10 prior to letting the honey badger off the leash.

I emailed them first - I just didn't get a response in time. I removed my links immediately to not send them traffic.

        But embarrassment?

        What's that?

lol - I didn't get embarrassed at all - ClickBank is the one that had egg on their face. My honey badger had all sorts of fun getting riled up ~

        Truth.

Wish I could make myself do that. I tend to act before thinking things out.

I got similar email today. Whitelisted for a vendor and within a span of few hours, removed from the whitelist. First I thought it was a spam mail and ignored it.
But when I saw your warning, I got the clue.

Oh wow! That is very confusing, not to mention frustrating. I'll be sure to find out what is really happening before I unleash fury on a vendor who is just changing settings.
    Thanks for the warning!
