My domain will be .net
Public registration costs $10.17
Private registration costs $17.16
It says private registration prevents domain related spam, helps stop domain hijacking, hides your personel information and helps protect against stalkers and harrassers.
I'm confused. Which one do you choose?
Which one should I choose?

For me, privacy is paramount. A public domain will show your house address in a whois lookup; not good for me so I pay the extra few bucks when registering.

I've never done private - only public.

Been online since 2009 and never had any problems -

I think you'd be better extending the registration term rather than worry about private registration.

    Hope that helps!

I've heard some people make noises to the effect that using domains by proxy services can harm how much Google likes your website.

I figure... more than likely that's not the case as it's not an indication of your content quality.

Btw: domains by proxy will reveal your details if subpoenaed. It doesn't provide complete and utter anonymity (in case that's what you're after).

I've never had any issues with a public registration before. However I do remember getting a couple of snail mail letters from domain registration companies trying to get me to renew domains with them, but that's about it.

I registered my first domain names in 1998, and today have over 120 of them -all public.

Public has never caused any type of problem for me. And if you are trying to build yourself as a brand, you don't want to hide.

    Save your money.

I think it's a matter of personal preference. Some people prefer private registration so your name, etc. is not out there for all to see.

I think it really depends on what you are most comfortable with.
