I need some input! (1500 Unique Visitors, how much should I be making?)

Hey guys,
I have a website (gaming website - private servers, browser games, guides, ect..), and I started it over 3 years ago as a hobby, but it's been growing through out the years, and it's now getting 1500 unique visitors a day. It has the top rank for tons of different gaming terms with google search. I've did a little SEO work on it at the start, but the website itself is a little buggy. I'm going to work on getting it more up to date, but I have a few questions, and would really appreciate some input..

Anyway with 1500 unique visitors a day in a MMO gaming / Gaming Private Servers / Web Browser Gaming niche based website.

How much money "could" I be roughly earning per month?

I know there's a lot more that goes into it, and I've been getting about $20 to $30 a month with crappy google adsense placement, but I know there's a lot more potential than that.

Feel free to give me any ideas / input.

Thanks

There is no way to tell, but I had a gaming website that promotes a world of warcraft guide from clickbank. My traffic might be a little more targeted as it is specifically dealing with WoW strategies and not a general website, but I was getting one click bank sale for every 500 unique visitors to my website.

This product paid a $20 commission. So if you can get the same rate you can possibly see $60+ a day.

I would have a professional look at it, someone from ODesk or Elance to redesign it for Adsense optimization.

This is pretty bad, so you need a doctor, not some free advice on a forum. Get that thing on your site checked out before it becomes terminal, bro!

Always hard to speculate on these types of questions without knowing the demographics (age, gender, nationality, etc) but have you tested anything other than Adsense?

        If not. Why not?

You have a site and steady traffic and feel you are not making enough dough... That to me is a perfect scenario for testing new stuff. Try some CPA offers, related or unrelated depending on why they come to your site (focused on specific games or just to doodle away a couple of hours online = different type of offer). Try some Amazon stuff. Try content locking.

I'm guessing you have already tried to re-position your Adsense all over the place and still not satisfied. So I would try anything other than Adsense for a while and see what it gives.

On your original question is 30 bucks ok for 1500 uniques? Feels like a lot of wasted traffic. I would work hard to monetize this better.

I've tried some CPA, some Amazon, and some Clickbank, each of them with a little success.

I know I can earn a lot more out of it, I just need to keep testing, and I haven't tried very many different add placements positions yet.

There's a lot of potential, and I'm glad to see the ideas here.

Hmm that's interesting mrjosco. I started promoting a guide as test on one of the sub categories that receives a decent amount of traffic, and I got 2 sales out of it, I'll have to test this out a little more.

      Thanks for the input!

If you are getting that amount of traffic then why don't you try to sell advertising on it. Something like $75 per month for 10 ad placements on the right side bar. Just a thought.

That's actually what I've been planning on doing. That will be my next attempt, as I feel I can earn decent money this way.

Do you have ads placed directly inside the content or just on the sidebars.
Placing them in content should add to your bottom line.

Depends on how you monetize your website. You can monetize via CPA, Adsense, selling adspace or affiliate marketing. My advice is to send that traffic to a squeeze page and build an e-zine. Build a relationship with them and then send them to CPA offers and affiliate offers.

If you have an autoresponder set up with an incentivized opt-in and a email series with quality information and occasional tasteful promotion, you can keep more of that traffic come back to your site for *repeat business*.

If they are well-targeted, they'll be interested in hearing more from you.

And if they want to hear more from you, chances are good they'll take a suggestion from you and buy something you think is really valuable and really up their alley.

And if you give them a cookie...LOL...

A lot better than letting your traffic just skim by you for the random click.

I thought this might have been a trick question because without knowing what you're selling and how much you're selling it for, it's impossible to predict how much you "should be" earning!!

That's very true JOSourcing. I was mostly looking for ideas to monetize. I've found a few, and I'll see how they work out

Yes, the correlation between unique visitors and earnings depends largely on who is seeking you and what (if anything) you sell.
By way of example I have a website about police corruption (exact match) which is mainly an information source and sells a few books. It doesn't earn much at all, even though it gets lots of visitors.
I have a similar situation with a number of other high (google) ranking sites.
Then I have some optimised sites for the search term "reptile parties", also a trademark here in Australia, which wins on google and generates income online through bookings.
In terms of searches, it generates only about 200 unique local (my city) hits a month for the exact phrase (yes it gets other hits as well) and yes pays for itself many times over.
The reason is that (I assume) most people doing a google search for the term are interested in buying when they get to the site, so the conversion is a fair accompli.
A site ranking higly for something not neccessarily being searched as a purchase, would not neccessarily generate any cash at all!
    Cheers

You need to start promoting some guides. I use KillerGuides on most of my sites and they pay a whopping 40% commission.

Guides would do well on my site BlogginPro, If you don't mind me asking, how many sales do you get per month on these guides, and how many unique visitors do you get per day to your website?
