Getting Indexed By Google - Problems. Suggestions?

Hey all,

I am coming to the experts as I am feeling a bit frustrated. Maybe I am just not being patient enough - but come on!

The Facts:
  • Launched Wordpress blog - 1/9/2009
  • Submitted Google XML Sitemap within a week
  • Have at least 26 posts on my blog (almost one a day)
  • Have 164 incoming links that SiteExplorer sees
  • Ranking in MSN and Yahoo
  • Have 6-8 links from PageRank 3 pages that I own - both have already been re-spidered and cached
Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong?

There is a common cause for this that is sometimes overlooked when setting up a new Wordpress blog. You may already know about this, but if not, this might be the solution:

Log into your WP Admin dashboard

    1. Click "settings"
    2. Click "privacy"
    3. Make sure "I would like my blog to be visible to everyone, including search engines (like Google, Sphere, Technorati) and archivers" is checked instead of the other one.

    Good luck!

These days getting indexed in Google is a matter of posting your link at any website (forums, blogs, etc) that Google bot visits frequently ... Have you tried some very basic SEO or link building techniques?

The call up above has my expert in Spain (just a cry down the street from Andre Chaperon's house) where we discuss a man who flew in to get mentored by Mark and Mark explained how he got his client's site (a brand new domain) indexed IN twenty minutes. Of course, the platform was WordPress which is what I use and my whole entire team...

he said he has 164 backlinks.
Oh, yes right. Some of them must be coming from websites that are crawled by Google ... only reason that i can think of is the one that BFmedia already mentioned ... besides wlowrey, what actually makes you think that your blog is not indexed by Google?

This is very simple. Please perform the follow steps.

1.) Submit a story about your site at Digg.com
    2.) Wait 3 days.

If the page is not indexed in Google within 3 days there is something going on with your OFFPAGE factors. In other words, you're more than likely linking OUT FROM one of your pages to a "bad neighbor". Have you had any reciprocal linking agreements in the past? Are you linking out to many other pages that you do not have control over from your site? If so, consider the possibility if you being "held back" temporarily by Google until you "let go" of those "bad neighbors".

This is a very valid possiblity.

      Hi wlowrey,

I think Jamie is giving you some good advice there. Perhaps the topics or keywords on your blog arent searched for frequently.

I'd start with the free SEO book unless you already using a keword service such as Wordtracker etc.

If you have popular keywords in your tags and titles for your blog posts and articles everything should be working.

Also if you've been submitting articles that point to your blog posts I cant see why you wouldn't get indexed.

Unless there's a technical issue relating to how your blogs been set up or your plugins.

Digg is also a good suggestion, if you use them whatever you post there can appear on Google in minutes, how long it will remain in the top spot is another story.

      Other than that I'm stumped

      Best of luck.

Ok - lets see if I can respond to all of this help.

First off - thank you to everyone for giving me a hand here. I hope I can get this taken care of.

Jim - I will listen to the call as soon as I finish posting this reply. Thanks for the link!

BFMedia - I checked my privacy statements, and they are all set appropriately. I was hoping this was it - but it looks like I am not so lucky.

Jamie - I have a long list of addresses in my wordpress ping service. Sorry I didn't mention it - but I am using a monster-list. Is it possible to have too many places listed in your ping-list?

Nata-sha - yea, I have my page linked on 2 of my other sites, both have a PageRank of 3 and both link to my site. I have also posted comments on a number of blogs - some including dofollow blogs.

The reason I think I am not indexes is because when I go to my Google Webmasters tool link - it says - sorry, none of your pages are currently indexes. Also - with the Google Bar, if you look at the Cache page, it shows you the last time Google scanned your site. - for me, it is never.

Anapest - I will submit a couple of my blog posts to digg and see what happens. However, my links I believe are ok. I will crawl back through my comments and top commentators link to see if they are going somewhere that isn't doing well with Google. Can turning off NoFollow on comments cause problems like this?

As for keywords - it isn't that I am not ranking with Google - I can handle that. I am working on that anyway. It is that Google hasn't even added me to their index.

    Thanks everyone for the help.

Charlotte, ONpage optimization factors such as the <META> tag are irrelevant in this situation in that none of the pages of the site in question are indexed to be evaluated/ranked in the first place. It is the OFFpage optimization factors that will affect GETTING INDEXED.
