Automatic Upgrade Doesn't Work For Wordpress 2.7.1 Yet

I don't know if anybody else is having this problem.

I just downloaded the latest Automatic Upgrade 1.2.2 and ran it on one of
my blogs that is version 2.7.0 and even though version 2.7.1 is out, the
upgrade, when run, gives the following message.

Wordpress automatic upgrade Upgrades your wordpress installation automatically. If this plugin helped you, you can contribute towards plugin development by Donating to me.

Suggest you try the core updater in 2.7 under tools.

Core Updater doesn't work for me. Just sits there saying it's opening or extracting the package and nothing happens.

Guys, you may be experiencing the same issue that I had experienced. It has something to do with one wordpress plugin.

this was discussed here in detail:

I may be completely wrong here, but I am sure Wordpress 2.7 already has automatic upgrade built into it, without the need of the automatic upgrade plugin.

When you log into your dashboard and see the upgrade nag at the top, click on "please update now".

Then you should go to a screen that gives you the option on automatically upgrading.

I did it yesterday on one of my blogs and it worked great.

I was having the same problem with it just hanging so I deactivated the automatic update plugin and tried what Leanne said and it worked.

Why are you using a plugin. The 2.7 version has its own update which I have used on all my blogs and works fine.

Nothing broke and it all went like clockwork.

Click on the upgrade in your dashboard and it takes you to the upgrade in your dashboard. Use the automatic update, not download and should just happen.

      Hi Steven

Clare and Leanne are right. I just use the inbuilt updater and within 10 seconds successfully updated.

I can see where you are coming from if you have a lot of blogs etc but until the problems (or potential problems) have been ironed out with the auto update plugin I would rather not 'break' anything

Steve - it sounds like you're using an older upgrade plugin (no longer needed after 2.7) - turn it off, and the builtin upgrade should display at the top throughout admin pages:

"WordPress 2.7.1 is available! Please update now."

Click that, follow the instructions, and likely it'll work for you (since it seems you've used an upgrade plugin on your site already).

It works just all right. If you're using any plugin to update your Wordpress previously, you must first disable them before you can update using Wordpress 2.7 built-in update tool.

      Thanks.

I have never been a fan of those auto-update plugins, just for various reasons, but when it was added to the core you could almost see me jumping for joy! (I'm being serious here!)

Sadly there are the odd hosts here about that won't allow you to upgrade your WordPress blog via the admin area, and you have to do it manually through FTP! - For a list of hosts that work fine with the new feature, you can check the link out below!...

Core Update Host Compatibility - WordPress Codex

But like others have already said, if you are running on 2.7 then just delete that plugin you used to use for upgrading your blog, it can all be done from within the admin area now!

    Thanks

I have used the seperate automatic upgrade plugin and it worked really well. With WP 2.7 you have to disable the plugin or it screws up the updater already built in the tools section. As a side note i did have to install a WP backup plugin to sort out the back up procedure ! the auto update plugin did it all so for non techies i think WP next edition may need to sort that out?

Great suggestions so far, I think that the latest version of wordpress (2.7) already has automatic upgrade system built into it, so you don't need to download an automatic upgrade plugin. Once you login to the latest version, you can see an upgrade icon at the top of the screen in the form of a popup icon. Click on that and it should forward you to an auto upgrade screen, been working well so far! Hope this helps!

Thanks for the update guys, I was hesitant about using the new version with the updater built in since I have WPAU too. I appreciate your help looking into it!

If I installed my Wordpress 2.7 blog using Fantastico on my cpanel, do I have only run upgrades through Fantastico? If 2.7.1 is not indicated on Fantastico, then I have to wait until 2.7.1 is shown as the current available version?

Yeah, I had he same problem, so if the update is working they fixed it in the last couple of weeks. I went to their help forum. I had to delete a file, disable the plugins, then it worked ok. Sorry, I can't remember what file I deleted but check their forum.
