Hi to all. Newbie here seeking advice.

I have a new project I'm about to start working on. I have a keyword that is getting 1.5 million global monthly searches and 368,000 local searches monthly with medium competition. Another one that is two keywords low competition 22,200 global and 12,100 local searches. Both per google keyword tool. The best part is that these keywords are related and my dad makes this product himself. He does not have a website and does not want one to sell his product. I want to build some sites for these keywords and monetize them. I am very new to the IM world an I need some guidance. I do not have experience building sites and do not know who to trust. Any reccomendations from you members on who to contact would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Do not jump into SEO with those keywords as your start. Its like a 9 year old trying to beat up Mike Tyson in his prime. I don't suggest you start with SEO. Focusing on learning the basics of internet marketing to start.

Beware of using the Google keyword tool to determine competition for keywords. The Google keyword tool reports competition for AdWords AKA paid traffic. If you are trying to build a site to rank for these keywords then you will be competing against other organic advertisers which could be much more competitive.

1.5 million global monthly searches sounds like a pretty competitive keyword from an organic standpoint, but without analyzing the backlinks of your competitors you can never be sure.

My thoughts were to have a site built and try and make money off the traffic then maybe eventually get my father to agree to sell his product through them. My father is one of few builders of this product worldwide and it is a big thing mostly in my general area. He gets inquiries from all over the world but doesnt want to mess with shipping and all that. He doesnt want to go big with this. Its a hobby of his. Even when searcing in google there are only 800,000 results. Normally I see results in the millions.

Sounds like a bunch of potential going to waste. Is it a complicated product to build?

Are these exact searches or broad match? Sounds like it's broad match searches, but I may be wrong. Just be careful when doing keyword research. Make sure you set to exact matches.

Do the best keyword research you can. Look at everything related to your keywords. As your father produces the product but is only interested in selling locally, let him sell locally... to you. You worry about the shipping for global orders. It sounds like you have a potentially very sweet deal.

    Good luck.

I agree with Jim. Why don't you make an arrangement with your father and buy the product from him wholesale(you know 'good child discount'). Build a website to sell the product and market it.

I don't know where you are located in the world, but if you are here in the US you can call UPS or FedEx and talk with a sales rep, they will be happy to help you learn about international shipping, especially if you use their company. They will let you know the best and most cost effective ways to ship your products nationally and internationally.

This way your Dad can focus on what he enjoys, production; and you can focus on what you enjoy internet sales and marketing. A win-win for you both, and profits too.

P.S. You don't need to waste money on a mentor, you have 1000s of mentors on this forum daily. The free information here on the forum is great. Almost every question you will have has been answered on this forum. And if it hasn't, just ask, and someone will probably give you a solution. This place and most of the people here are great. Save your money for advertising to drive traffic to your website. Now go and Prosper.

Like others have said, make sure you have the exact match clicked on the left side. It sounds to me like you might have broad match selected.

If not though, it sounds like you have a really good keyword. Just make sure you don't take the competition column in Google very seriously. That has to do with adwords competition, not how hard it is to rank for that particular keyword.

You will need to use SEOquake or Traffic Travis, or Market Samurai to see the actual competition on the first page. If you can't get on the first page for your primary keyword what's the point?

Seriously though, I wish you the best of luck and hope everything works out great for you. Just don't get too excited if the metrics aren't right.
