Ignore them and read the more positive threads about people who are doing well from the internet. There's always good and bad everywhere you look. Focus on the bad and you're right - you'll get depressed. Focus on the good and you'll get uplifted and gain confidence.

I was just thinking kinda the same thing earlier. I kinda stayed away for a little while, just because it can get addictive reading so much, and it seems that since I've been back, many of the warriors that once posted a lot of good content are no longer posting.
It seems there is a greater influx of new warriors, and a lot of those that I can't start to understand what they are trying to say.
I've seen a lot of members banned for violating TOS also, which, even though I know did exist, it didn't seem to be as prevalent then as it is now.
Not that they don't need it, cause several of them I reported myself for spamming.
But just doesn't seem quite the same for some reason.

    Don't really know.

      Red,

Those are pretty fact-based threads. The content isn't really all that scary. Still, being prepared for upcoming changes is better than being sunny and cheerful as you walk into a pit.

The stuff that really has a negative impact is the repetitive nonsense, like "I hate pop-ups/OTOs/red headlines/pink ponies!" and "Here's why all marketers suck!"

I've decided I'm just going to delete all that stuff on sight. It serves no useful purpose that isn't heavily outweighed by the hostility and nastiness that comes from it.

      Robert,
But just doesn't seem quite the same for some reason.
That's a constant. People come and go, some are here in cycles, and tons of new folks wander through the place.

The pattern is the same over time. The only real change has been that so many people are coming through now that the cycles overlap. That's where developing your own circle of contacts makes things more stable for you. Folks whose posts you regularly read, who you work with and chat with, etc. Makes for a more productive and consistent experience here.

For some people, those circles consist of a specific, small group they work closely with. For others, it's "everyone who doesn't annoy the hell out of me."

Well, it's just like the nightly TV news. It's mostly negative, but really, it's up to YOU on what to focus on. Yes, there are somenegative threads in this forum, but there are also a lot of good, positive ones. It really depends on which ones you're spending the most time reading. At least, that's how it is for me.

In the real world, you can get depressed by the bad news. Or, you can cheer up your little corner of the world. Frankly, this forum is just a tiny subset of the real world.

I choose to ignore the bad news if I cannot do anything about it. I ask myself, "is there any constructive thing I can do to change that?" If, no...then it is time to move on.

I don't know why you guys are criticizing the OP so much. I completely agree with him and I do think that his statement adds value to the forum. It's important for Newbies to know that the "moaning and groaning" is not a likely reality.

It is possible to be banned from affiliate programs or for Google to de-index your website. But neither of those two are likely scenarios (especially if you put effort into your sites).

If I was just starting out, I would love to know that I don't need to be all that paranoid. Because without experience, it's easy to get trapped into the negative mindsets that float around this forum.

To all the Newbies out there:

People are more likely to comment during a time of tragedy. Someone is emotionally charged when they get de-indexed or banned from amazon. For that reason, they are incredibly more likely to create a warrior forum thread.

But know that it's not as serious a problem as some of these "the sky is falling" threads would lead you to believe. That's the point that the OP is trying to make. And I completely agree with him.

You should be able to distinguish between the helpful threads that alert you to business challenges that you NEED to stay informed about such as those caused by Google, PayPal or whatever; and those that are just gripe sessions by whiners... and decide what to ignore.

I know what you're saying... there's much to be depressed about and life isn't fair, but of course you have the power to decide what you don't want to hear. Just don't go to the other extreme and bury your head in the sand.

This clever lady has a good point.

For example the Mindset subforum is all about getting OUT of the negative mindset.

Or the copywriting forum is great and encouraging- it'll help you realize that if you're a good copywriter, you'll never run out of clients.

There's a huge difference between "something important may be happening, so we should examine it together" and "I got my ass banned from [take your pick], so [take your pick] hates all marketers and wants to get rid of us all."

The former offer news one may have missed, lead to new insights and better planning for the future, and help avoid potential sinkholes.

The latter should get 10 seconds of sympathy, followed by a clean binkie and a nap...

The "I got caught" threads which I find much more valuable to people are the (much rarer) ones which take responsibility. It's usually 'I rolled the dice and crapped out' or 'I followed bad advice' and here's what happened. What can I do to make the best of the situation? That discussion can help people.

Do not turn your back to those threads. Some of them may save your business. Anything BIG Mike said above, I agree 100%. There's no need to repeat what he said (in other words, rewrite what he said lol - that's some other trend in WF nowadays, and yes that's my rant about WF :p ).

I have a "reading technique" for these kind of threads, which's developed as a result of my "WF readership habits" for the last few years. I go to these threads, read the OP and the first 1-2 comments, then I make a quick scan to locate if anyone I consider a "successful business owner" made a comment about it or not (and most of the times, they are there!). Because successful business owners tend to have a different/well-thought-out approach to changes. They can teach you how you can adapt to new things in just a few sentences. For example, the Google threads you're talking about are full of gems. When I read things like that, I don't get depressed.
Then after reading what those people I care write about it, I read what others said, I reply if I have anything to say etc. etc.

    You get the idea

It's a good example of confirmation bias.

People tend not to find out new things to believe but to have their existing beleifs confirmed by someone else. Once you start thinking that things are pretty grim you'll find the threads that confirm this.

Newspapers know that their readers are looking for confirmation that the world is going to hell and so provide plenty of material to confirm this.

The one question you need to ask those that had their account closed is a simple business question.."Did you read the terms and conditions?"

The answer will of course be a resounding "No" and that is the problem when you follow another persons advice without doing your own due diligence, trust me I have been told to never darken YouTubes door again thanks to following a "proven" youtube strategy.

Treat your business like a real business and you will be fine.

As mentioned, news about marketing and the industry overall should not be considered negative necessarily. We need to hear about that stuff.

What gets old is people coming here everyday and posting how they've been banned from one or another site or service. And most of them say they have absolutely no idea why. I find that hard to believe. Sure, occasionally a site will make a mistake and ban someone who's innocent but that is the exception rather than the rule. People who get banned most often know exactly what they've done.

Another thing that's happening a LOT more lately here is people starting threads about technical problems with one or another site or service. This place is turning into a third party help desk. And many of the problems aren't problems at all if the individual would simply stop and read the site's TOS or FAQ.

The header for the main section of Warrior Forum is this:

Where We Talk About Making Money

But more and more lately this is not the topic at all. It seems to have become a place where people throw up any post just so they can get noticed.

Over the past months fewer and fewer of the seasoned Warriors I and many others have come to appreciate are participating here. I look at some of the answers to legitimate marketing questions and cringe at how absolutely misinformed some people offering those answers are. That's not to say I've never been wrong but some of the stuff flying in here lately is laughable.

But I'm not just going to bitch about it. I'll offer what could be at least a partial solution. Maybe it would be wise to require new members to have a minimum of 50 or 100 posts before they can open a new thread of their own. That alone would reduce sooooo many brand new yet redundant posts where the OP is seeking info that has literally been covered in thousands of threads.

It might also be a good idea to have new members complete a short (5 questions or so) quiz on the most basic of rules in here before they get to be a member. Those five questions might place emphasis on using the search feature, not posting to ask why your thread got delteted, and other plain nonsense that continues to compromise the integrity of this great community. Just my two cents.

There are many segments of marketing that depends on the
negative--health supplements and investments. The negative
gets people's attention and then you can sell them a solution.

If everything here was positive then the place would turn
into a ghost town. Much of what is complained about on
the WF are places where it reflects life. There are good
and bad people in every community. Negative and
positive people. And you'll notice whatever you're tuned

I think most of the threads are important except for the bankruptcy one.. Lets say the Amazon one.. as I know you are an amazon affiliate, this guy posted that his account got terminated and now he knows the reason.. imagine u were doing the same without knowing its against the TOS, u should read the TOS but hey.. sometimes we make mistakes.. so you saw his post and knew u were doing something wrong and fixed it, that saved your business..

As others said its better to know something is coming instead of finding all your sites dropped in ranking or a major Google change happened and you didn't know abt it.. you will be upset to know that alot of people knew so its normal.. you need to adapt.. instead of booom! u r site dropped? u start freaking out and you think its only you..

Maybe the opposite would happen! your sites gained rankings! but you didn't know why.. so you won't know the reason.. you will be happy.. if you knew why then you would know that Google appreciated your content and you will keep doing what you were doing..
