I've used a lot of FLV converters and SUPER 2009 Build 35 is by far one of the best.

I use software called Visual Hub. Makes everything a breeze.

If you don't want to download software and just want to convert it online, try Zamzar. There are a few other similar free services as well.

I use adobe flash cs3. I highly recommend it. It is not cheap however if you want to try it out they have a 30 day free trial. Just search google for it.

Do you want FLV for use on video sharing sites with all
the attendant problems of using them, or do you want
high-quality videos that play fast you host yourself?

Free stuff is low grade. If you are serious about video
you need better. VP6 codec is what you want. If your
converter isn't giving you that you won't have top
    quality and speed of load.

    Edit feature fritzing - addendum:

For YouTube I've found MP4/Mpeg works good. YouTube
still is a flakey host for your embedded video, especially
    for user of slower connections.

There are probably some decent free Mpeg converters now -
though don't be surprised if you see a drop in video quality
when uploaded to YouTube. Apparently the best way to
get top quality on YouTube is to upload the biggest size
file you can - then YT compresses it into their format and
slashes the quality. You get the best out of YT by putting
a better quality file into it.
