Google's Telling Me My Meta Tags Are Too Short

Hey Warriors!

Question - how long is a meta tag supposed to be?

When I'm in my webmaster tools, it's telling me that I have short meta descriptions. Here's an example of one:

Reviews for Kitchen Cookbooks

I have a title tag right before it almost identical and then a meta keyword tag that includes a string of relevant keywords and phrases, but what more should I be saying in that description meta?

Do they have examples somewhere? I hate adding verbiage just to lengthen something but if they're putting it in my site diagnostics as something I need to fix, I guess I have to draw it out somehow.

    On topic, maybe they want longer "descriptions" of your pages?

    Title: This is a widget
    Description: Learn more about widgets and how they can help you taking care of your car, pets and pool. Includes tutorial to widget building and short widget list.

    Etc.

    I'll try that and see if it makes a difference. I'd personally just rather people cut to the chase. LOL!

    As for the tornado, it hit about 7 houses down from us so we had some wind damage but me and my kids hid in a shower and we were safe - thank you
