Working from the Beach

Everyone seems to say that working from the beach is the ultimate measure of the perfect business. Well, I can run my business anywhere that I have an internet connection, but the connection part is my question.

Since I really only travel a few times a year, paying $60 per month, or $720 per year for a cellular modem just doesn't seem worthwhile when I will use it maybe 20 to 30 days a year.

I have looked for a pre-paid cellular data plan, but they just don't seem to exist.

Does anyone have any suggestions for an affordable laptop mobile data plan?

I'm 99% sure we've got pre-paid wireless cards you can plug into your laptop over here in Aus, if you're in the US you're usually a little behind us though

But man... working on the beach is overrated.
    • The sun reflects off your laptop screen and you can't see a thing.
    • The sand gets EVERYWHERE. I swear I've got ebooks with sand in them!
    • The wind blows sand and muck in your face constantly.
    • The water and eye-candy are too tempting.
    • Beer + sun = sleep.
You're better off working a few hours in the morning -- either from home, a coffee shop or hotel room, whatever -- then leaving work behind and enjoying the beach.

It seems the cellular industry here in the US is behind everything except for fees.

Part of my problem is that one of my favorite places to go (besides a beach) is to a cabin near Yellowstone National Park. At the cabin, there is not even a phone line, let alone high speed internet (but there is cellular), so for me working in the morning still needs a cellular connection.

Just find a starbucks near the beach and use their wifi

Believe it or not, there is not a starbucks within 50 miles of the cabin (confirmed on the starbucks site).
