Paypal Holds + WarriorPlus

Hey,

Today Paypal notified me that:

We're writing to let you know about a change to your PayPal account.
Starting 4/13/2012, money from payments you receive will be placed in a pending balance for up to 21 days.

I immediately called them on the phone, and asked why my payments were being held. I've had no disputes ever in my account, and a perfect and clean history.

I was told by the representative that it was the way in which the third party processor, in this case WarriorPlus handles it's paypal transactions. They said, that the sales that are coming into my account are listed as Goods, and that because I am selling a digital product, it should be listed under Services.

That if payments were listed under services they would not be held. She also went to say that if I provided receipts from the post office that the hold could be lifted sooner. I reminded her that I am selling a digital product.

So unless Warriorplus fixes there system, this will continue to happen to many sellers.

Are their any alternatives outside of securing my own merchant account, or a similar service that process these payments as Services? I'm sure I can just place a buy it now button in my thread, but what about my affiliates that are converting at over 20%? What option do I have for them. How can their sales be tracked.

This is major problem. Someone more knowledgeable please advice.

Thank you,

Jason

Wow that's big news if it's 100% accurate...

I am sure WarriorPlus will fix this right away as they process MILLIONS of dollars worth of sales... Thanks for the heads up though!

    Best,
    Shane

Hey yea I sent a message to Mike and submitted a ticket. As you know he is a busy super affiliate, possibly get a thousand messages, so I decided to come here, perhaps some one can relay him message, his company can call and confirm themselves what I was told.

I did send him a message, but I wanted to let everyone know, because it effects many sellers as a whole, so I was giving people the heads up.

With JVZoo the payments are marked as "for services" automatically.

So you might wanna check them out while you wait for WSO Pro to make their changes.

    Hi Jason
From my experience, Paypal very often does this, and not only to you, but to many people (sellers) at the same time....and I think that the reason they gave you (services or goods_ is just an excuse ( Only if you had a few customers complains about goods not arriving, and they opened disputes, Paypal could justify this moove). Paypal does this in purpose,... imagine thousands of people everyday having their money tied up, for about a week....that is sum of money paypal can manage for their needs..until they choose other people to do this next week....
I'd try to call them, I mean Paypal in the USA directly , they are more polite..) (..and explain...but be on top, as you are the customer, and they get paid by you.. and me, and everyone else that sells something and uses their services....

Yeah, Paypal just sucks. I provide a "full scale" article service and I also got hit with the 21 day hold on payments. Mind you I have NEVER had a SINGLE dissatisfied customer and nothing but positive reviews...sh#t pisses me off beyond words.

EDIT: See, im pissed off all over again!

      Reframe, re-set.

      The world is very simple.

If you don't like PayPal -- don't use them.

Oh wait ... whatever reason you give next -- that is the value they are providing you.

This is true for many, many things in the world.

There is, on youtube, a video of a comedian talking about the things that we complain about ... and, as a result, forget to notice the amazing things that are happening.

The one particular example I remember ... he talks about people complaining about various parts of air travel. Yet ... it takes away our attention from the truly amazing aspect "You have seat ... UP IN THE AIR!..." (Or, put maybe even a bit more miraculously ... "a seat IN THE SKY!")

I'm as prone to complain about things as much as the next person. And there's a time and place for getting things off our chests, exhausting the tension that many minor annoyances build up.

But ... in the end ... stop and appreciate ... for just a bit ... what PayPal actually lets you accomplish.

Could they be better? No doubt.

But for one thing ... if PayPal says you need to get your digital products listed as services to avoid this complication ... it would be something I would certainly be looking into. (The primary concern, I guess, that they are all on the same page.)

As much as I hate to admit it, you are correct and I'm glad I could catch a glimpse of the situation from a different perspective. I will be looking into this first thing in the morning, but this whole ordeal reminds me of an old quote:

Paypal: "You can't live with em, and you can't live without em."

          Hey Dennis,

          Thanks.

I'm glad it helped -- and please feel free to provide any reframes or resets when my mental and emotional machinery needs it.

Paypal having scooped up most the market doesn't mean people, businessmen in particular need to cheer them on when they screw everyone and abuse there power...Paypal got where it has because ebay forced everyone to use it and have spent a lot on marketing. And sadly most consumers took the bait, hook, line and sinker. This is why monopolys and big businesses are so scary, they wield a lot of power and they just more powerful as time goes on....if gov didn't breakup at&t back in the day we wouldn't have any choice today, it'd be at&t all day. If gov lets apple, google etc...continue to take over and dominate everyone's space same deal there. Worse since these corps have abused the concept of patents they can literally stop any and all innovation in their fields, and they have enough money to pay off politicians, so they're unstoppable in modern age.

The list of big organziations/industries ... cartels ... that I have issues with goes on and on.

Let's see ... big pharma, big agra, current US health system, medical education, heck -- education, banks, credit cards, US Congress, lobbyists of all stripes and colors, the US Financial system, the US tax code, the stock market (and I've been in involved in a few of the above, so I know "some" of the "inside dirt" ...).

Okay ... need I go on?

Here's the deal ... when people are pissed off they are RARELY productive.

I could let my frustration and anger EASILY overtake me if I let it.

But then I'd never have any fun and never get anything done and never create cool things for other folks to enjoy.

There will always be parts of life that are a PITB, often a HUGE PITB. The point is ... recognize that they are a PITB, recognize what they may actually contribute to your life, and then move on.

Another way of terming this is "pick your battles."

If you think I was cheering on PayPal, then I didn't effectively communicate -- to you -- the message I was trying to send.

And that is this ... "take control of your mental environment." That's the playground. PayPal is just an object in that playground. Like I say, there are lots more.

P.S. -- and, if AT&T hadn't been the monopoly, we wouldn't have had many wonderful innovations that came out of Bell Labs,, either. Unix, for one. The C language for another. Wonderful contributions by psychologist George A. Miller. The list goes on and on.

P.P.S. -- and, if you hadn't noticed, the breakup is practically a no-op.

P.P.P.S. -- the breakup didn't have to do with being liberated from black phones. It was a court case in Texas. So, while the breakup may have added choice -- other things helped us have more choice as well. How AT&T became a monopoly is a pretty interesting story, actually. And, as a consequence, produced one of the most reliable phone systems in the world. I'm sure that had SOMETHING to do with some of the industrial productivity the US achieved. Reliable communication helps a LOT!

    Hi Jason,

I have never heard of such an issue before, but unfortunately Paypal doesn't always have all of its representatives on the same page.

In any case, I will look further into this and contact my paypal rep and see what they have to say, but it is definitely new to me.

    Thanks,

    Mike

I recently came across Stripe (www.stripe.com) which seems to be going after the same space as PayPal -- but without its baggage (see Stealth Payment Startup Stripe Backed By PayPal Founders | TechCrunch).

Sure would like to see W+, JvZoo, MooshPay, etc start taking their payments too . . .

I checked out the Stripe.com service. The signup process was really fast and the interface looks great.

However, it is not available for non US users yet.

This is so ridiculous, the products that are downloaded are obviously products and not services. How can PayPal justify that. But then they don't have to justify it as there no rules that make them. They are not a bank, even though they handle millions of dollars in transactions.

    Hello JasonGiorgini

Yes, i do notice that each time i receive a sale from w+.
Initially,i thought it was because my original account currency is £££££ and not $$$$. But paypal explanation has made it clearer now.Going by her explanation, it's only mike who can fix that issue for us simply by changing his W+ settings from Good to Services.True to say what we do via W+ is services and not goods.

In the meantime, what i tend to do is login to my account and approve the sale.Once done, the cash is usually available in my account. It's a very daunting task i must add.

This happened to a friend of mine, the only way to fix it is to have each customer after that date go into their payment history and click the received button.

I don't this problem is going away and my bet is that it will get worse.

I am not sure if any heard about this but Maria Gudelis mentioned in her recent webinar that PayPal had indeed just slapped her and guess what, it wasn't even for selling her own product, it was for selling as an affiliates product so now the stakes just got even higher!!

Even more shocking was the fact that PayPal not only closed down Maria (who happens to be one of the most respected marketers we know), they also closed down the accounts of her children too!

Now when this happens you just know things are getting PERSONAL!

Whilst we are learning every day how to best counter PayPal's attack our long term business strategy is to seek more IM friendly launch platforms and payment processors.

We will keep you posted regarding any progress we make.

    In the interim...ALWAYS HAVE A PLAN B....and C!!

    Cheers

    Anton
