If you bought a pdf file with resale rights you have no right to edit it because it is still under copyright protection.

You can change it but you'll be violating the rights that came along with the pdf.

You have resale rights...that means, from my understanding, that you can resell the product and keep 100% of the money.

You cannot edit or alter the pdf in any way. The author of the PDF would have given you PLR rights to the pdf along with the source file (normally in .doc, .rtf, or.txt format).

But if you want to edit it, here's how:

Just go on google and type in "how to edit a pdf". You'll find some freeware, shareware, and paid applications that can help you with editing your pdf.

Hope this helps. Have a great weekend.

I wanted to do the exact same thing. I find some freeware on Google but I still couldn't get to change it.

Maybe I was missing something or the PDF was very well protected.

    • In response to Benchleg's answer (can't post his links)!

This does not work in all cases, based on my experiences.

If the author has placed security controls on THEIR PDF document, you CANNOT, save it as a WORD document, neither can you even SAVE A COPY! You actually HAVE NO CONTROL whatsoever over the document!

However, knowing this, and as a publisher providing unique content, this is a GOOD THING! This means you have control over the content that you provide and can't simply be passed on for profit by others!

Therefore, with that said, I believe that everyone who produces anything of original content should get familiar and intimate with tools that can help and protect themselves and their pocket book so that others can't duplicate and pass it off as their "information"!

Manipulating PDF tools only go so far. Learn how to use them so that YOU can put all of those powerful security measures in place to PROTECT YOU, THE AUTHOR!

      Wishing you all success!

You shouldn't edit a resale rights product at all unless you have permission to do so.

If you want a product you can edit and resell look for a PLR (private label rights) product.

The responses explaining how to participate in copyright infringement are sickening.

Yeah, the how to information may be easy enough to find, but it doesn't have to be repeated here.

Remember, the authors of these PDFs are trying to earn a living. When resale/giveaway rights are included it's because they have affililiate links (or other forms of monetization) in them.

To change them, potentially (and most likely) violates the licensing agreement. And is stealing.

    All the best,

      DO NOT DO IT ....

This is not aimed at any poster to this thread, but is my personal opinion:

One can protect .pdfs with passwords and one can find software that will allow one (or try to allow one) to gain access and change links within pdfs using a number of techniques. Nothing wrong with that.

If you purchase something with certain rights (I am an advocate that NO product should be sold on the Internet without a license file included, clearly explaining a purchaser's rights), then please adhere to those rights. Don't try to break into the product and change any part of it contrary to the rights that you have purchased.

The bottom line is that Warriors are marketers and not thieves.

If you want to change things within a software, report, or ebook then please purchase the rights to do so. If the rights are not immediately available, then contact the vendor and try to negotiate a price for the rights that you want.

By undermining legitimate sellers of products and services, all you are doing is lowering the income of both you and your colleagues and promoting the notion that the Internet is an unregulated free for all danger zone, where the unwary should beware and even not tread.

      Just my thoughts,

      Jeff Henshaw.

If you were the author, you wouldn't want this to be the case! :p

Don't do it - do you want others to infringe your rights when you do your own thing?

Providing is your own source material that you created, you can alter your pdf with a great program called Open Office. Its a free download and is very effective in merging and altering office documents with the pdf format. Hope this assists!

    Hi Monitorit:

Let us take out for a moment any question about links or actual rights. Pretend every PDF File is 100 percent your material. PDF's were actually designed so that the content can go from person to person and computer to computer with the same look and quality. Sort of the act of recording a digital CD to a digital CD.

There are programs that professional printers use that can edit a PDF. If you see such a product on the internet please please please make sure that you have information about it and it comes from a trusted source. I can tell you from experience with my books that a lot of authors find the PDF to be a pain.

If things have loosened up and you can get the software for a fair price that would make it easier.

It's a shame on one hand we all learned Microsoft Word from the first time it hit the market but it can be edited by anyone that has it in their possession. Then the PDF file comes along and goes rather extreme the other way. You can't even change the day of the week without a big production.

    Have a great day!

I agree,it will be not good to edit the pdf files you had bought because it is a violation of law.The best way i guess is to have the permission of the creator.

Definitely abide by the contractual rights. Besides the ethical problem, those who think they're getting away with it today have to concern themselves with getting nailed in the future as the tracks they leave are there forever.

Then you have protected and unprotected PDF. I've never tried to edit a protected file but as to unprotected there are free programs that allow certain modifications and premium programs where you can do more.

In my case, customers run their data through my program and end up with a five page analysis report (unprotected PDF). Depending on their purpose, users might add a page for their comments or delete a page or two if they only want to share a part of the report with other parties. I don't restrict them in anyway.

    Good Luck,
    Pat

Some in this thread need to understand what "rights" are.

Resale rights give you the right only to sell the product yourself and keep the money - not to rewrite it in any way or change links.

Master Resale rights allow you sell the product AS IT IS (no changes) and to also sell the right for others to resell the product (as it is).

Brandable resale rights allow you to change links in a product to your own links before selling it. Sometimes you can list yourself as author - but most often you are only changing affiliate links in the product.

If you want to rewrite a pdf you will buy PLR (private label rights) and be provided with a pdf plus the same product in word or text format to allow rewriting.

It is NOT ok to change a product unless the "read me" permissions included give you the specific rights to do that. It's not opinion or what anyone prefers - it's copyright law.

Changing products without the specific right to do so opens you up to legal risk that you don't want to take - and by condoning this practice, you show yourself to be someone with low standards of ethics and honesty.
