Online Directory Software, Script or Anything?

Hey warriors,

Do you have any idea on setting up an online directory?

I would like to set up an online directory for my local market.

Hopefully our warriors who have own an online directory can share some insight.

      If you use Wordpress, this directory was recommended by a member on here a few days ago. I've installed it on a site and it works well. It isn't customisable.

        I check this site weekly hoping for an updated version of the plugin. Not much has happened there since December.

    I use adp script from: Astanda Directory Project
    I found it easy to install and setup.
    my directory is at:
    Hypnosis Directory
    (I cannot post the links because I have not posted 15 posts yet). Just search for Astanda Directory Project and I'm sure you'll find it.

    The price is high. But, I do think it's worth considering.

    just make sure google doesn't have issues with it.. I can't say for a fact, but I believe that they may associate some scripts with link-farms. So check out some sites using whichever ones you like, see if they have some PR, etc..

    we are launching an edirectory site and it really is the best I have used but definitely not cheap - $149 a month - site is not live yet so can't give you a link but it is has the most professional look and a lot of built in features.

    On the downside - unless you buy the script and host yourself (which I think was around 2k) you have very limited customization - well, pretty much none. I had to pay an extra $75 just to get the border color changed!

    you can do anything inside the 'content' areas - but anything that has to do with the css or layout - forget it. You have to pay for it.....
